I was soldering the bars on to this new pack and on this one cell while I was soldering it it started to leak fluid out and started to make poping/hissing noises. The sell got pretty hot and it leaked for a while. anyway I finished the job and hooked it up to the charger and it to about 600 seconds of charge then I stopped it checked it w/ a volt meter and they all where about the same reading.
My question is what the hell happened? Has this happened to anyone before?
Is that cell damaged?
Will I notice any loss of performance on this pack?
Thanks!

I suspect that cell is damaged, but I can't go into any more detail than that. In general, popping/hissing/leaking is BAD when it comes to batteries. If you decide to try to run the pack normally, be very careful with it.

How long were you holding the iron to the battery for? Five seconds is a general rule or thumb before you start doing damage to your batteries.
Personally, I would not use that pack/cell.

It may or may not have any problems - some racers (myself included) have noticed that you might get one pack that hisses when it's being charged but not perform any differently than the other packs - just monitor it carefully when charging. The same may have happened just one cell that for what ever reason sizzled, monitor it when charging and compare with the other packs.
Best thing to do is send an email to Danny at SMC to see what he says.

Well I just ran it the frist time and did a little discharge afterwards, then checked each each cell with a volt meter, every cell was 1.15v and the problem cell came in at 1.08v. So basically that pack I just bought is worthless right?

Well I just emailed Danny, see what happens...

Well SMC is a great company in my book, they said just send in the specs of the bad cell and they are going to send me a new one.

If you kept the iron on it for too long, it could've started venting and leaking. Batteries don't like to be hot like a soldering iron. At least you're getting a new pack/cell, good CS.
