I havent bought a motor yet that hasnt been broken in. But when I do buy a motor, im going to break it in under water for about 1-2 minutes at about 6 volts or so. The comm wont get any wear from this (clean comm!!!), and its the fastest, best way I know. Using a 4cell and letting it run down takes too long and still leaves the comm with wear.

I've heard of people breaking in motors under water, how exactly do you do this? Isn't it dangerous to submerge a motor connected to a battery pack? How do you avoid shorting out the pack?

I think there is an article in this months RCCA about this very subject. Look on the main page and see.

Ive read in RC Boat Modler that you can run motors underwater.. They are the only thing you dont have to ballon. Im not suggesting it...... but..

I dont use a battery pack. Use a power supply so you get consistant power to the motor. Connect it and dip the whole motor in, past the end of the endbell. It'll have more resistance there and wont leave 1/4 as much comm wear because you dont have to leave it running as long. Be sure to spray it with motor cleaner afterwords to get all the water out.
