I think he was referring to how often should he cut the comm. If your using a standard end bell, usually around 5 runs is good. And if you have a v2 endbell, you can go about 20 runs.

With 4cell racing the norm is after each run, use a comm stick to remove the tarnish from comm and brush face then spray out with motor cleaner and use your favorite lube on bushings.Reedy 767 comm needs truing between 3-5 battery packs, with the Putnam Green/Blue setup no more than three battery packs or runs. You can extend maintenance a bit by using 2-3 motor for weekly club racing - always save the best for last (mains). Even for weekly racing you want at least 2 motors - so the one used in race has time to cool and be cleaned. You can purchase motor in several ways teardown handouts 15-20 dollar, stock OEM 30 - 35 dollar aftermarket builders 35-45 dollars most come race tuned and ready to go. Check out RC4Less (www.rc4less.com) for oval related parts and items.

For big local or regional events where handout motors are used the issue of maintenance and setup gets more intense. Racers may get only 1 motor, or may purchase the limit of 4 additional motor to get the best motor possible. Setup and tuning gets more involved zapping, dynoing motor to doing a complete rebuild after each heat.
