Gearing? ESC? What hop ups they using? Better motors?

I sugest that you take a look around in the pits and of your competition to see what they are doing different than you... don't be shy i ask them.. what's the worst they will say to you.. no i wont tell you... try it i guarantee your get some info that way on how to make your car faster..

if you want to go fast take that motor stick it on a motor runner such as turbo 35 or orion digital motor cheacker and see how many amps it draws the more amps it draws that more speed and punch but you also get lower run times

Amp draw tells very little about your motor.
Stick an allen wrench into one of the vents in the can, and your motor will draw 100's of Amps.
Amp draw is also a sign of inefficiency.

The real fast guys usually have super smooth drive trains and very well maintained cars. You'd be surprised just how much resistance dirty diffs and drivetrains will slow your car. Try running 1700's, they will give you a lot more punch than the 2400's. With 2400's you are just getting longer run times with less punch.
Like the other guys said, check out their gearing, try going up on the pinion, down on the spur.
Run your suspension as stiff as you can, find out what weight oil and springs are too stiff for you, then go just slightly softer until you are still hooking up good.
Don't run radial tires unless you have too, slicks will give you a small advantage. Also, run the narrowest possible tire, the smaller the contact patch, the less rolling resistance and less rotating mass.
All of these things will only make tiny changes by themselves, but can add up to faster lap times when you finally get the right set-up.
I bet you 90% of how fast around the track they are going is skill.
And Top End is right on all but the batteries. All batteries are different. 2400's still have a LOT of punch, but I think Top End was thinking they were NiMh (Nickel Metal Hydrade). 2400's are fine for you, especially if the "pros" are usuing them.
Next time you buy a motor, break it in. I [was] an avid slotcar racer (hence my e-mail SlotcarsnRC). If you didnt break in your motor, it wouldnt last half as long, go half as fast or anything. Breaking in a motor is VERY crucial. The best was is to submerge it in water or lighter fluid. Lighter fluid is better, but if its your first time dont. Lighter fluid wont burn if the spark is submerged, becasue a comm CANT spark in any liquid.
I dont know what voltage you should run it in with because I dont have a power supply yet. Slotcars are 4 volts, so RC should be around 6-7.
Amps arent always good. You dont want too little, but too much is even worse. Amps is ineffective because it measures basically a motors strain and resistance.
Keep everything smooth, rebuild your diff when it even slightly gets gritty. Clean/relube all your bearings frequently and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Being smooth is good and cutting the corners is too.
