Out of the box the TC4 RTR is a great starter. Depending on how big the track is going to be though you might want to change motors. If it's a really small track, you might want to run a 27t stocker. If you are all there for run and releiabilty, I'd suggest everyone running stock 540 tamiya motors. They are cheap and last allmost for ever. Plus when geared right can fliy and provide very long races. A 10-amain is very possiable with a 540 and a cheap 3000 pack. If you do run the TC4 stock out of the box, I'd have the endbell of the motor check for tightnest, before running it. They have the tendency to come loose and cause glitching. Your lHS should be able to do this for you. As for differant cars, there are some out there that are cheaper, but for the money the TC4 is the winner. It turns hardest, brakes and handles good, plus offers good speed. And it's easy to maintain. Allthough this is all my opinion, I hope you can find some info usefull.

If it's going on a carpet oval, you want a LTO Pan car. RC10L4 Oval,

Hyperdrive, I think CRC makes a 1/10 Pan/Oval car. I'd go with the RC10 simply because Associated is so well supported by the LHS'. You can order from Tower, http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDVE5&P=0
or a number of other online shops. However, I recommend buying (at least the Kit, tires and Body) from your LHS. Then they'll be happy to help you with problems, setups, etc. Later......Torque :)

I never have run oval. My only real roots are off-road with some recent Touring car (TC4) wins. For touring car class I won my first season out with it RTR. SO I can't complain to much. But you still may still want some other opinions before you purcahs.

Oval racing cars ike any other depends on persons driving and tuning abiltiy. Go to any oval racing event and you see as many different manufacturers as any other form of rc racing. There is Associated's 10L4 O, Hypderdrive, KSG, Custom Works, Trinity (parts are an issue, plus issue on release date) this include complete kits but require tires, body and electronics.
There are companies that make chassis, Silva Concept-XFactor4, RIP Motorsports-Undertaker, Swift Racing - Maverick, Leading Edge - Terminator, DarkSide Motorsports and others.
While I run nothing but Associated 10Ls they required upgrades to make them more tunable and competitive. Each 10L series (10L, 10Lss, 10L3, 10L4) were upgraded with aftermarket chassis, front axle, kingpin, front springs, servo and shock mounts, rear pod plates etc. The 10L4 uses the Silva Concepts Xfactor chassis, side shocks. Irrgang Hubs and Axle, Extended rear pod plates, Wolfe front kingpin, springs, front 1/8 inch axle, Darkside Adjustable Shock mount, Raceway alum servo mount, Track Attack aluminum adj body posts. In some cases or classes a wing is needed to keep car stable and planted.
Most important thing to select with any pan car is tire compounds and where to set the amount of caster, camber, spring rates to use on shocks, frontend and what shock oil weight to use. Normally two green (wolfe) or green LF/RedRF, while on center shock Black or Green spring with #1 piston and 40 weght oil, side shock 30weight oil, Blue Spring on Left shock, Orange or Red on Right shock. I use Jaco Foams and compounds vary with each track Hard Blue, Black,Gray or Purple on Front, Whiite or Grays on rear. For flat tracks its Gray LF, Black RF, White LR, Gray RR.
