What temp should I set my soldering iron to, for desoldering the wires from a motor? And what temp (if different) should I set my iron at for soldering the wires onto a new motor?

Are there any precautions I should take to prevent damage to the motors?

Thanks!

OP, this is one of those things where everyone has an opinion but in the end it's what works for you that counts. I generally wind mine up to about 400C for soldering 12 gauge wire to motors, Deans plugs etc. Basically you need it hot enough so that both parts heat up quickly and the solder flows well, leaving a shiny joint. Don't just crank it to the max, you'll risk burning your tips out.
Good luck.

I don't know if there's an ideal temp but i just turn mine all the way up to 800 degrees for all soldering (ESC, Batts, Motor etc.). Nothing bad has happened http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif.
