I just bought a used Miss Bud Dynamite .15 engine. What can you tell me about it? Does anyone have the hp rating? I've heard that this is a pretty good engine. Comments? Thank you!

Danny

I haven't been able to find any really numbers on that engines. But i can say it's a reliable engine. Easy to start.

Thanks, t_hedlund. I've been having a hard time on this forum and intlwaters.com finding info on this engine. I know that there are a lot of them out there since a lot of Miss Buds and Miss Llumars have been sold. Thanks for letting me know that it is an easy to start, reliable engine. Now if someone can get me a hp rating  !

i think it's somewhere around 1.1hp.

This is about what I read a while back....at least I hope so :D . This would be a pretty good hp rating for a little .15 engine for just messing around. I've been told that the little HPI .15 FE engine that I have is only about .5 hp  .

The engine arrived in the mail and it sure does have a lot of compression! It has way more "pop" than the HPI .15FE does  . It takes a lot more pull on the starter rope to turn this engine over and the "pops" are loud! I'm thinking very optimistically about this engine!

Just don't over pull the starter rope. Short quick pull are best. Once I get fuel to the carb it usually only takes 1-2 pull and it off and running. Did you get a copy of the manual, if note here is a link to dynamite .15 man (http://h1069725.hobbyshopnow.com/ProdInfo/Files/dyn6502-manual.pdf) .
Have fun.

t_hedlund, I'm so glad that you posted that link to the engine manual :D ! I thought that I was going to have to search all over the internet for it since I didn't get one with the engine. Thank you very much!

no sweat , but i think that the high speed needle setting should be 3 1/2 turns not 2 like the manual state, that information is straight from the manual for the boat. That is also the setting i use.

3 1/2 turns for breaking the engine in or for normal running when the engine is fully broken in? According to the person I bought the engine from, it only has two tanks run through it at a "very rich setting."

I went and checked the high speed needle setting as I received the engine. It was set at 2 1/3 turns open. Doesn't sound real rich to me. Who knows, though. Maybe on my particular engine it is  .

The climate in your area will really dictate what is rich and what is lean. I live in Michigan and my Bud with a slightly modified motor ran at 2 1/2 turns at about 75-80 degrees with mild humidity and it ran good. With temperatures above 80 and high humidity it ran like crap and was hard to dial in. I actually only ran the boat 3 times in the hot humid weather. This is also my first summer with the boat so I am still learning. I also called the manufacturer looking for the horse power rating and they would not tell me. Other .15 motors are rated just under 1 hp.

hederjr, great info. I like to learn as much as I can so that I know what to expect. It also helps to keep me from making any additional mistakes.

Obviously it is hot and humid here in Florida in the summer which is about 9 months out of the year :p ! Hopefully I can get this little engine dialed in properly.

I wonder why they wouldn't give you a hp rating  .

Keep the info coming guys!

i doubt that little engine puts out anything near 1hp. it would more likely be around .5 or less. either way it is a good little motor and prob could pick up some power with porting.

Well, I'm hoping that it produces more optimistic power but in any case it should last longer than the engine that it will replace.

I bought a brand new HPI .15FE watercooled engine from ebay a little over a yr ago. I then found out that not only was it not a powerhouse but that it wasn't even an ABC engine    . I was told by one hobbyshop that it may not even last through 1 gal of fuel  .

I thought that I'd heard that the Dynamite .15 produces some decent power. The little Miss Bud reviews on speed seem to indicate that the power output of the engine is pretty good even if the boat itself could use a lot of improvements.
