In about 2 weeks i am picking up a Wily Willy 2 and a traxxas Xl-1 Esc at ahobby show in hamburg. I know that its not the best car but i wanted something to have fun with. I chose the XL-1 cause i really dont need a high end speed conrol. I also have a radio system left over form an airplane. Is this everything? What do i need in the way of lubes and cleaners for the motor and how often do i use them. Also is there a breaking procedure for a motor. ive heard something about water dipping, si this right? Also what paint do i sue for the body and driver. And what real differences are as far as driving style. How do i go about braking without slamming into reverse. Thanks alot fot the help

Actually the Tamiya "Wild Willy2", was the first RC I ever assembled. Yes, it is definitely a fun car. Because 'Willy" has a hard plastic body, use the enamel plastic model paint. TESTORS makes paint kits just for plastic models at reasonable prices. "Willy" won't need so much as the Jeep body is already drab green. Your ESC should take care of the braking without going directly to reverse, if it doesn't get a futaba MC220CR, it will. I wouldn't dip the 540 electric motor as it is stock and if it ever goes out, just get a new one their cheap. By that time you would have been in this forum long enough to get interested in one or more of the many other electric type models and you'll be knowledgeable about modified motors which many of them use.

Welcome to electric, it's a lot of fun, with less cleanup time and bit more quiet http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I have the car. Use bearing oil, comm drops, a good motor cleaner(compressed air in a can works well), a 4 cell battery pack, and a glass of water to charge the 540. I haven't done it becuse i have a speed gems 2 ruby(15 triple). To break, just ease of the gas and go into reverse quickly, and then return your finger quicky to forward(with an msc. i haven't tried my rooster yet).If you can, upgrade the tranny bearings, or even better, upgrade the entire car to full ball bearings.don't forget the battery(i would suggest a 2000 or 2400). Just don't go overboard when you wheelie near water.
have fun(its better in my opinion once its hopped up.

make sure that the airplane frequency is legal to use. Usually you can use an air frequency on the ground. (at least i think...)
