Im going to get into the electric racing scene to help pass the winter. I have already bought the vehicle. The track that I will run at will be inside dirt, sort of motocross style. I bought an associated T4 truck. I've got the intellapeak pulse charger with variable charge and discharge rates up to 5 amp, that charges and discharges Nimahs. I have 2 3300 packs, and a couple 1900 packs.

In novince class what is consider a leagal motor? Will i need a comm lathe, or are there motors out there that i can get good life out of. Actually i won't be racing but doing practice sessions since I work on race days.

thanks for your help

You wont need a lathe- its for the hardcore guys mostly, and chances are if you want the comm cut, theres a guy there who will do it. I belive novice is either stock or possibly spec. I think it may depend on your track.

If you don't intend to race the things you have should be fine, to allow motor to last a little longer properly gear them and refrain from using the high silver content brushes like Trinity 4499 and Reedy 767 those produce a lot of wear instead use some like the Reedy 760. If you should decide to attend a weekly race, the local racers will be you best bet on what items you will need and give you information on chasses and motor setup.

NO a lathe isn't your first requirement but may be newer battery packs or something to take care of them better. A bulb discharger and equalizer for today's NIMH will be needed if you want to maintain them properly and have them last longer.
