What is the practical temp. for a nitro engine, and an electric motor? I just got one of the DTX Flashpoint Temp. Gauges. Thanks for the help all.
Also, where should I check the temp. at?

The usual range for nitro engines is 240f - 270f. Some engines like cooler some warmer but that's a decent range to shoot for. Measure by shooting at the glow plug. Make sure you calibrate the ir guage to the type of material you're measuring.
Sorry, don't know about the electric.

The ideal engine temperature greatly varies from engine-to-engine, as well as size. Shoot for a temperature between 220-260 fahrenheit. Start the engine up, run it for about 30 seconds (no full throttle!), then take the temp reading. Or your could use the "Spit Test". Place a drop of water on the head, and if it boils off almost instantly, then that means that your running very lean. It should boil off in about 3 seconds. Anything longer than that, youre running to rich.
*So tweak for temperature (first), then engine performance and responsiveness (second), then temperature again (third)!!
* repeat as necessary :)
