I've got 15+ runs on my 15 turn mod and it's still going strong. So your motor is not the problem (unless it's defective). What kind of batteries do you have?

unless you are carnac, without knowing his conditions and gearing, it may very well be his motor (actually it's the most likely thing, with gearing probably being the second most likely).... it simply can't be ruled out.... and it only takes a couple seconds to take a look at the comm and brushes....
in fact... i would go so far to say, that if you (Obi) hit your motor on the dyno after 15+ runs, the numbers would be way down from right out of the box... try it sometime... and post what your numbers are after 15+ runs....
peace out... :)

Ok, lemme go buy a dyno... :D
Seriously, though, I haven't really noticed a performance drop. I hate it when people post telling beginners to cut there comms every couple of runs and change there brushes. Sure, for the experienced racers it makes a big difference, but for beginners it doesn't really matter.
In fact, I'm going to run this motor until it won't move, and then I'm going to buy a new one and do the same. The only time I'll think about getting it cut is if a friend offers to do it for free or my hobby shop offers that service.

my guesses would be... (in this order)
1. your 15 turn is in desperate need of a turning and new brushes....
2. he has much better cells than you
3. your tranny is full of dirt and need a good rebuild..
4. you are wayyy off on your gearing....
peace out... :)

this varies a ton from brand to brand and with conditions..
but i normally rebuild my 14-16 turn mods well before the 10 run mark...
mods go fast... but they don't go fast forever....
peace out.... :)

couple other quick things while i'm thinking about them...
1. your slipper may be wayyy too loose
2. your pinion spur gap may be wayyyyy too tight
3. you may not have your esc and/or radio adjusted for max speed....
peace out... :)

you do make a good point there... the one about most novices won't notice a difference....
but this guy's 15t is getting smoked by a much slower motor... so he is definately noticing it....
you also make some great points for brushless motors.... the sooner they really get mainstream, the sooner the prices will go down... and then nobody will ever need to worry about cutting comms or changing brushes again...
at this point... guys like you end up popping 30 bucks for an entire new motor, when it only takes a 4 dollar set of brushes and about a minute on a lathe to get your motor to nearly new condition... not nearly enough LHS's offer a comm cutting service... and there are many areas of the country that don't have racetracks so you can't just go have one of the local racers do it for you dirt cheap either...
and i can totally understand not wanting to pop 200+ bucks for a lathe, bits, a motor for the lathe and a power supply..... most people already dump a decent chunk of cash into their cars on a weekly basis to fix broken parts, hop-ups, or just general upkeep....
i hope brushless get here soon..... it will really help out the electric segment of our sport...
peace out.... :)

A 15 turn quad versus a 21 single. Don't the extra 3 winds cause something to happen? Less acceleration I think :) The Spec Motor is plenty capable! At our track, NO mod motors ever make the Spec A main and no mod motors win any of the other mains. At our indoor track, the spec trucks are only 1 lap behind the mods (33 for spec vs 34 for mod). Must be in the gearing...heehee, I've got my b2 geared at 81/21, super fast! But I think I'll drop it to an 81/19...until I find someone who will cut my comm.

I can't wait for brushless either. I am saving up for a new ESC, but will probably wait to see how the Novak brushless system perform (and how much they are). Oh, and I don't drop $30 for a new motor. In fact, I bought the Monsters of Touring 15x2 (around $15-20) just so I wouldn't have to clean my pockets when it wore out.

to set your timing...
loosen the two screws on the motor and twist it forwards and your timing will be increased

just fyi....
it's not a good idea to advance timing on a motor if you are using a reversing esc... you may not be.. but if you are.. just leave it at 0...
peace out... :)

HOWIE- his ESC is a novak explorer that has no reverse i dont liek reverse ESC non reverse are much faster all the current goes foward ya know, i think its ur gearing try like 81/20 or something

bryceums: horrible instructions... "turn it forward"? He could easily retard his timing and not advance it...
