Tamiya has a couple of rally cars and I think they are based off the TLO1 and TLO2 chassis. A pic or link would help rally the help you need. ;)

Yes I couldn't resist the pitiful pun. :p

Isn't that the TB-01? That's Tamiya's Shaft driven rally car. I believe it's been out for some time now (since 2000 I think...). I heard it doesn't jump very well and the kit has a mix of bushings and bearings rather than all bearings. But it is a durable car and has a nice form-fitting inner body cover to keep out debris while driving over the rough stuff, and you just can't beat Tamiya's incredibly realistic body sets (190mm).

Personally, I prefer the shaft drive as it eliminates the possiblility of snapping a belt and it allows the drivetrain to be sealed away from little pebbles that could bind it up.

If I recall correctly, RCCA gave it a review in the August '00 issue.

Why doesnt it jump very well jason? I hearf it had pretty good suspension and could keep up with any other rally car out there. And i also like it becuase it comes with all off-road stuff so u can go straight to rallying not like the RW or ithink the hpi rally comes with pretty much on-road set ups.
Well any1 else have an input on this car? Its the TB01 chassis. :D

Thanx for the replys keep it coming

It was reviewed in the August 2000 issue. From what I just read it got a nice review. It doesn't mention jumping in the article, at least not in the paragraph that I read. I suggest that you might want to get this issue and read it for yourself.
Fact is Tamiya kits are tough, scale and usually are high quality.

Well, I 've never taken the TB-01 out on a track before (I have the RS4 Rally) but I know some guys at my local track who have run them on the dirt track. I don't know why it doesn't jump well, but according to them, they find it hard to launch properly and hard to control in the air. Other than that, it performs very well on dirt, tarmac and other rough surfaces.

I guess that's even more realistic if you take a look at the typical rally stage - there are bumps and rolling hills which a rally car will catch some air if driven over at speed, but there aren't any purposefully built "jumps" in a stage like a buggy/truck track.

I have to admit, the off-road track I run my rally at is quite hard on the car - definately not rally country. A better rally surface would be a rough parking lot, construction site, or just a dirt/gravel lot. Personally, I think a rally is better suited to tracks with small rolling hills or "table-top jumps" rather than large triples and doubles commonly found on your average off-road track.

I think if you bought the TB-01, you'd be quite happy.

I'm ALSO interested in getting the TB01 rally!!

I heard the car can take some major hits (build like a tank)? Also, I've heard about handling problems, as well as overheating problems and shaft drive problems...

can anybody verify these?

I'll bet overheating is a problem with the TB-01. (I think it's mentioned in the review) As with any chassis that is tightly enclosed, air can't flow thru to cool the ESC and motor so it easily overheats. My RS4 rally has the same problem - I run a Novak Reactor and with the innerbody on, it has shutdown several times while running on a warm summer day.
Not exactly sure how tough it is, but it looks strong enough to take anything you drive it thru. As for the drive shaft, I never heard of it having any problems.
