The differential in my Losi xxx car has become very noisy making a rattling, grinding, vibrating sound. I disassembled the differential, and replaced the bearing that seemed worn and all gears apear perfect. The noise is present at all time een when the motor is run while holding the car off the ground. This all started after i went off a 3 ft. jump and my car bottomed out.
thanx

its probably displaced or its that the diff needs to be rebuilt

It makes thee noise when you hold both rear wheels off the ground? Then it's not your Diff. Check for a stripped spur gear, then check all the tranny bearings. Next, check the universals and out to the wheel... If you have CVDs, one could be losing a pin. Basically, check everything between the motor and tires!

it could be that the cvd bearing holder is touching the rear arms

Even when i disconect the cvd's from the diff it still makes the noise.

i think your diff. is to tight. take of the left wheel and take out the CVD and pop the turnbuckle where the CVD goes there is a little screw that takes a 2.0 allen wrench or driver. loosen that up a little bit and if it is still to tight re-do the process. loosening it a little at a time.

It sounds like your diff is tight, I agree with TC3racer, except you do not have to take apart anything, Team Losi Diff's are externally adjustable, no disassembly required :)
If it has gotten too tight, then you will probably need to replace the Diff Nut carrier, and the diff nut, you may also want to re-lube your diff as well.
Good luck.

PS, I am also thinking it is what Nairb said, check your pinion/spur for any niks, or small rocks that have lodged themselves in there, or, you can even remove your pinion, and spin the tranny manually, and see if it still does it, or, if it is the motor.

to check if your diff. is to loose or to tight, lift the truck of the ground and spin one off the rear wheels. it should spin freely but if it is set right there will be a little bit off grindy noise to it. this is normal for a well set diff. :)

oh BTW.... i'm used to tightening and loosening the diff. on my T3 thats why i thought your XXX would be pretty much the same in diff. adjustment. but hey i want an external diff. adjustment for my T3! no fair. lol.
*in sarcasm* some of you guys are pretty smart. A tight or loose diff wouldn't make a grinding noise. If it were loose it would whine, if it were tight it would just be tight, so in other words its not the diff. And he said it still did it when he held it off the ground the means the diff wouldn't be "diffing" if you get what I mean. Take your whole driveline apart and if there isnt anything abnormal then there.
