Quick question.

I was looking through RCCA and there was an article about a pro race.
I notice the pictures of the pro cars and it looks like they have cut about an inch off the bottom rear end bumper.
Is this the case? I was wonder why they do that. I assume for cooling of the motor.
If this is true, would you want some sort of hole or cutout in the front of the car so you get better air flow.

Thanks

I think its to allow air thats trapped under the car to get out. But Im not sure

I'm assuming you're talking about oval or touring cars? Its to reduce the drag on the car and to stop it from trapping air - if you leave it fully closed, in some cases you will get additional drag from air entering under the chassis being trapped. In some cases it adds a SMALL amount of stability because it allows the air an open exit.

Yes it is to let the trapped air out. I have heard in RCCA that if oval racers didnt open up the back up it would "lift" up the back wheels and they would spin out. it bassicly makes it so that the back wheels have no downforce and it spins out.
