I was thinking about purchasing one, I am wanting something to bash the driveway and street with. The one I was looking at was the Sport Evo http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGXB3&P=0 is it any good or is it a waste of money? Tamiya has so many cars but I only want a shaft drive so I dont have to worry about the small pebbles in the road. Any thoughts anyone? I would like to put a mild modified in it so I can get some speed and some bearings, and oil shocks. Can the tranny handle a mod motor?

i would go for a nitro for playing with all that charging not for me. some ppl race the tamiya kits @ my club and ive never seen any 1 break 1.
the site says its not very adjustable.

The TT-01 is made for what you want to do. In one of RCCA's touring car magazines, they put a mild modified motor in it and it was fine.

I bought the TT-01 to mainly drift with. It performed absolutely fabulous with ABS tires. With a 27T, the car was really easy to handle then some of the higher end chassis'. I guess the heavy weight transfer helped with the side to side transitions - if you saw the sgdrifters video, majority of their members were using TT-01s. On a side note, if you are interested, I'll sell you my fully hopped TT-01 for dirt cheap. LMK and i'll tell you whats on it...

TT-01 is a good car for playing around. It's easy to build and requires very little maintainance.

Just a sidenote, has anyone seen the new TT01 Audi? The body is really out of site.

It's not "junk" if you buy a front-one way, bearings, alum. shaft, and adjustable arms. I know this chassis isn't up there with the others, but for bashing, its a cheap alternative. IMO, I like it better than my other chassis' because it's extremely easy to fix.

From what I recall - front one way, rear ball diff, bearings, adjustable tie rods, front and rear aluminum arms, aluminum shaft, front and rear adjustable arms, front and rear anti-sway bars, HPI oil filled shocks, custom dry cf upper deck, and clamp-on hub adapters.

I'm not to sure how much I would sell it for...

Instead of buying a TT-01 and upgrading the crap out of it to make it worth driving, save yourself alot of time and money and wait till you get $145. Go to Tower and by using their monthy ad numbers (coupons), you can get yourself a TA05 (a real car). if you insist on shaft drive get a TB02 over the TT01. Those cars have bearings, oil shocks, and all the adjustments you need and then some. A car you can grow with weather you play or race.

That's just my opinion, but it's backed with 16 years of building close to 200 r/c cars and trucks so I'm not totally ignorant. I've had 2 TT-01's and if that's all you can afford they are fun, but will cost you more in the long run and not be half the car performance wise. TA05 $160 car, but buying a $90 TT-01 and $70 worth of upgrades for $160 won't get you TA05 performance. Not even close.

The TA05 is silky smooth, fast, stable, and tracks straight as an arrow. Incase you think it's only a race car, I use mine for play and have a buddy who does the same. We have not fouled a belt, pully, or gear in our combined 25+ runs since we recently bought them. Comparing a TT-01 to a TA05 is like comparing a Yugo to a Porche.

In the end it's up to you, but you asked and I couldn't live with myself if I did the politically correct thing and told you how great the TT-01 is. Sometimes the truth hurts, but I'm telling you that the cheaper car is not always the cheapest in the end. Upgrading a TT-01 is like putting perfume on a pig.

I would have to totally agree on this. I've moved on to a much better chassis, the HPI pro. To summarize the TT-01, it's a huge chunk of plastic with not much adjustability. With a matter of preference, I like the TT-01/TL-01 for weekend bash drifting. Like I said, the weight transfer helps ALOT when doing feint drifts. I can't bad mouth these chassis' because I grew up around it... But to put everything in a nutshell, I should of bought a TB02, TC3, HPI pro 2/3, etc.

Just to add my 2 cents...

Disclaimer...I'm a newbie, but have already been down the TT-01 hopup road and can attest that it will cost you big bucks to get it in the shape you want.

As others have said here, by the time you take the base cost of the car and then add all the goodies, you'd be better off with a TA05 or some other model. Sure, I've enjoyed the heck out of TT-01 for bashing around and it was a good way to get my feet wet coming back to the R/C hobby, but I did the same thing I'm sure others have fallen for. Bought a kit or RTR, wanted my own stuff in it and all of the hopups and have essentially puchased a whole new car. Just like 1:1 cars...gotta look at your TOT, or Total Cost of Ownership, not just initial layout.

Can't wait to get one of the TA05's...I'm gonna wait for the Esso Supra version which will hopefully be out soon.

I've built just about every Tamiya touring chassis except for some of the special editions, and for the money, you can't beat the TA05. It's dialed right out of the box and it drives like it's on rails with a 19 turn motor. If you put more power in it, you can tune it to handle as needed as it has adjustable camber, toe, droop, roll center, adjustable shocks, right out of the package. And if you don't want/need all the adjustments just build it as per the instructions (which are typical tamiya awesome instructions) and go have fun!

And hey, I like the TT-01 too... I'm a Tamiya fanatic, but just wanted you to be aware of the cost involved in upgrading "budget" cars.

TA05 is belt driven, I want a shaft car.

The TB02 is shaft driven and about the same price as the TA05. It already has balldiffs, bearings, oil shocks, alloy drive shaft, tons of adjustments, and a clip-on heatsink for the motor. Might want to take a look at that chassis.

Yes, and if you read my entire post just above that one I said if you insisted on shaft drive you would be better off with a TB02 than a TT-01. I've had a TB02 and I wouldn't dream of buying another since I've built/driven the TA05.

are the ta05's competative on carpet???? i have been looking a lot lately at "cheap" tc's and was debating a rcaer kit tc3 or a hpi sprint 2 but after hopw muvch u rave about the ta05 i really think it sounds like a cool car....

just my .02 on the tt01.... friend had one that hea ddored and we raced around with rally conversion against my rs4rally... he set it up for carpet as ddi i and we had a lot of fun..... he had all the hopups oils bearings alloy this and that and actually had cf arms not alloy ones..... but anyway he got the ofna um.... tc that came rtr and had a ton of cf... great car...a nd with all the exact same elecs lifted right out of his tt01 the ofna was pullin about an average of an extra 2.5 laps in a 5 minute heat depending on track setup.....

my advice... if u want tamyia get a tb02 if u want anything shafty get a used tc3... will prolly already be hopped up some and they have exponential possibilities and are stock for stock killer over a tt01

I don't recommend Team Associated cars because their screw and bolts are really bad. They strip easily. Their quality is not very good. I have built a NTC3 for someone and I really got mad at the screws because they are really bad.

Tamiya is known for high quality that's why all my cars are Tamiya.

They list them on the home page of their website, in the magazines, and it the catalogs. They've been running alot of like $20 off a $150 order.... stuff like that. If you sign up for their super saver club for $14.99 you get free shipping off all $150 orders all year plus other benefits. So if you make 2 orders per year it pretty much pays for itself. I make 12-15 per year so it really pays for me. I've been a member for as long as I can remember and been a Tower customer for about 15 years now. I don't really have any complaints. MY LHS pretty much charges 50% more and higher than Tower on almost everything they sell so they really leave me no choice. I'm all for helping the little guy, but I AM the little guy, LOL. :)
