Can I use just any reciever with my radio...just get a 27 mHz one and stick a crystal in it?

Beef: I'mn pretty sure you can. I know if you had a 75Mhz that you would need to buy a particular receiver depending on the make of the Tx. But I'm pretty sure 27Mhz are all across the board the same. Just a suggestion though: if you have a Airtronics; don't try a Futaba; or vice-versa...they might not like each other!

How about a KO Tx and Novak Rx?

It should work, if it's one of Novak's newer ones. I've heard of lots of guys who use Novak's XXL reciever with their KO's(for both 27 & 75MHz versions) & they've been very happy with them. Just make sure you have the right one when you buy it(AM for AM, FM for FM, & in some cases, you need an XXL specific to the brand of radio you have, particularly on 75MHz). However, I'm still a proponent of sticking with the original reciever that came with your radio, especially KO's, they're about the best you can buy........ :)
