Hey, i got my dremel last year. i have barly used it until the middile part of august. when i started my project graflex (if your familier with the off topic forum i think you now what im talking about).

I was cutting last night and it was running then stopped i bet it against some wood and it started again then stop go stop go stop.

Whats cuasing this? I'v checked the brushes and it still has plenty of brush left.

Any ideas?

I don't know how far you delve inside the Dremel but graphite dust is very conductive. It could be fouling the commutator and shorting out a winding or two. Just a thought. Hope it helps some.

I've fixed a couple and one problem I found is the connections on the feild windings are pretty mickey mouse. the copper wire is wedged in a small clip this can cause the wire to break causing a unreliable connection . I fixed this by adding asmall length of wire and soldering it to the existing wire. Hope this helps Roger M

well im not going to go adding wires, id probibly kill it :)

Is there a chance it just could have been hot? Mayeb if i took a aircompressor and blew the dremel with it?

Everyone is telling you to tear it apart....don't! The simplest and most likely (not to mention cheapest) route to go is to replace your brushes. If you pull the brushes and your comm is all nasty looking, try a comm stick on it. I don't suggest taking it apart if dropping a couple of bucks on a set of brushes will take care of you. Even if you find out it's not the brushes, you'll have a spare set.

I've had a problem with my old dremel several years ago. I think back then (perhaps even now) I didn't break it in like the directions told me to. I think all I had to do was get some new brushes and do it properly and it was fixed. Hmmm so uhhh.... uhhh check the brushes!! hehe

took it apart and the black wire was dangling loose. Fixed it up, and got it working, it stopped on me once but didnt after that.

I wonder how that wire got loose?

this also happened to my dremel. i think it was overheated or something because it suddenly stopped. i had it serviced. so now, whenever i use it, i let it cool down for a while before using it for long periods. also, i avoid using it on very hard materials because it strains the motor.
