I went to my LHS and bought the RRP 6 pack of pinion gears. First thing I noticed was that they don't even tell you how many teeth each gear has on the gear. Then I noticed that the edge of the gears are carelessly machined.
So I put a 17 teeth and I was testing it by rolling the car with my hand. I made sure the gears weren't to tight and they had slight play. It couldn't go backwards cuz the gears were locking and forward made a clicking sound. But I took it out and ran it anyway and the pinion comes off after I drive for 10 ft. Well that could have been my fault and my motors, because the motor shaft is a little short and my spur gear is out to far from the motor plate.
So I take my Rustler in and put on the 15 teeth. I made sure I put this gear on right. Super tight. I turned the spur gear with my finger and about every 3 teeth the gears were a little out of true. I was disappointed again. But when I gave it throttle the gears seemed to spin ok. So outside I went and I was having fun then my car started making a clicking sound. The RRP pinion gear chewed up the spur. My rear shock tower was covered in white spur gear dust.
I guess some people believe a lower price should have lower quality. These are just my experiences with these pinions. Anyone have a similar or better experience?

I just bought the gears myself. The ones I got where just fine. I now have pinons ranging from 15T to 26T. I too wish they had the tooth count stamped on the gears themselves. I have ran all of them on my pan cars and they work well. It sounds like you got a bad batch and might want to contact the manufacture for replacements. The 20 tooth pinion's teeth don't come to a point but it still works just fine.
Contact RRP and I bet they will make good with you.
