Just wondering if anyone has run around large powerlines. Does it seem to cause radio interference?? I would imagine the possibility is there, but I thought someone might know for sure!
Thanks

My friend lives a few houses away from our power station. We can hear the hum of those towers, wires and boxes real clear! He runs an XR2 and hasn't gotten any glitching when we race in the field.

I think one of the reasons glitches are so hard to figure out sometimes is that it's just pot luck on what random signal will effect your equipment. Sometimes it might bother one crystal set, & not another. I don't have any experience with high tension line though, other than it drives my full size truck radio crazy sometimes.

I'm actully not getting any glitching. I have been looking for an area to put a track, and I think I found one, but it is VERY close to some large powerlines. I just wanted to check and see if people had experienced an interference around these things. Sounds like things would most likely be fine...
Thanks

Here's a little lesson on Magnetism. When an electric current flows in a wire it creates a magnetic field. The motors we use in RC create a hefty magnetic field when each segment of the commutator conducts the electricity through the appropriate segment of the armature. In this way magnetism is to our advantage. However, when very HIGH voltage passes through a power line some pretty intense magnetic fields get generated. The voltage in power lines is alternating current so the positive and negative magnetic fields cancel each other out.....mostly. This is were the biggest problems can occur, the magnetic field also emits radio frequency energy. That is what will cause any glitching. If I were you I'd look for another site. As you mentioned, you haven't had any problems with it as yet. But just on the outside chance somone's radio glitches while racing at your track (and the guilt suffered from a friends wrecked vehicle), I'd find another site. Just my $.032CDN
