I purchased a trinity nimh receiver battery with a futaba J connector. The battery instructions say to rewire for the KO and put the red wire on the far right and the black wire in the center. Currently with the battery positioned to the top the black wire is at the far left and the red wire is in the middle. The servo connections from left to right are black-red-white and appear to match with the power as it's layed out now. KO instruction don't tell you wich pin is + or -. Does it matter with servo reversing? I am a newbe and don't want to fry the electronics. Thanks

JYD, You're scarrin me! My som has a Trinity NMH pack in his GT, & I had to go look at to just be shure, but on ALL 6 of our KO receivers the red wire (+) goes in the center on the power, & servo plugs. At least some of them are Futaba style. Are you shure you didn't misread the instructions, by reading the old style Airtronics portion?
To my knowledge the OLD STYLE (not the Z style) is the only one that ever put the red + wire to one side. You are right about smokin the equipment though. You need to get it right for shure. Just to be safe reread the directions & see if it makes better sense. If not call Trinity, or KO. Good luck. Joe

Railman,

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of putting "Railman" in the topic heading as I figured you would know being a Ko user. The battery instructions don't differentiate between old style new style. They mainly provide pictorals of the various receiver manufacturers and how the end should be wired. They make it very clear that it is very important to install the red wire on the correct pin. I just got the battery new. Ko provides no information in the ex-11 manual about the pin polarity of the receiver. The receiver I have is a kr297fz less than a year old. I am assuming the plus terminal is the center pin..... If you have a 297 and you're powered black-red starting left to right I'm set....Otherwise I will give Ko a call to make sure.. As always thank you for your input..

Should be running next weekend if I can get everything setup right and the motor broken in.

Jim

JYD, Just to clear up one thing, the referance I made to "the only one that I knew with the red (+) on the outside" had to do with the OLD style AIRTRONICS, not KO. The other thing I didn't tell you is that the black wire should be opposite the crystal...I just double checked. Like I said above the red + is in the middle...That should do it! Have fun!

Railman,

The Trinity battery instructions are scary. They show black middle and red outside (right)for KO with no indication of a new/old style. They do show a different connection profile for the Airtronics/air-z. Thanks for checking and giving me the scoop.

I had to do some checking of my own before I posted anything on this, but if you have the current reciever(KR-297, & you said you do), then it's already set up to accomodate Futaba's "J" connector wire pattern, so your pack should be fine as it came out of the package, you'd only have to change the wire order if you had an older KO reciever. I had to deal with something like that myself, when I bought my first KO computer radio, my previous one was an analog EX-1, & it had the older KO pattern. Thing was, I didn't know that they'd changed the wire pattern when I bought the newer radio, so when I plugged my ESC in & tried to turn it on, it fried my ESC's BEC circuit(it was a Tempest, no reverse voltage protection). It was a definite learning experience for me..... :)

JYD, Grizz finally brought the confusion to the front. I didn't know KO ever wired any different! Just to be shure you understand though, keep the red wire in the middle!
Thanks Grizz! ;)

I left the wiring as is, black wire opposite the crystal and red in the middle, turned on the power and no smoke or sizzle. I have a hitec coreless servo for steering and it sounds different from the standard metal gear unit. I assume this is normal and due to the internal construction? Nice to get the electronics on board. Now I can begin my attempt to set up the linkages. I'm sure I'll be back in a state of confusion lookin for help. Thanks Railman and Grizz for your input.
