I'm thinking of getting back into rc after many years off. I think I might get an rc 10 gt, and I still have my Futaba 4 ch radio, reciever, batteries from electric car I can make into a new pack for the truck, charger, servos, and a few other things. My problem is the RTR package is about the same as what I would have to pay for a motor and a few other parts, and I would have a junk radio and other parts I wouldn't use, so what should I do? I'm new to the NITRO world and could use some help.

I would go for the non RTR...I just bought my RC10GT online - prebuilt and majorly hopped up. When you build the car its fun and you learn how the thing goes together so when something breaks or isn't working right, you have a better understanding of it.

Try the TeamBuilt versions, they come built and ready for an engine and eletronics to be bolted in. Its the same as the Team truck, minus the CVDs.

BTW, the AE.15 engine included with the RTR is a POWERHOUSE! Great for the basher (high RPMs), but not ROAR legal.

A four channle surface radio? If I were you I would make sure it is a surface radio(27 and 75 mhz I think) because an airplane radios aren't allowed for use in RC Cars. Anyway I would go for the RTR, it is fast and extremely fun. :)

Hey **** ,

There's probably not much advantage going with a RTR kit in your case. If you really don't wanna build, then go for the Expert Built (or Team Built, depending on who you're talking to). You can drop your radio gear right in there, and it's only $210, so the difference in cost from the RTR won't be too big after you buy an engine. It's basically the RTR truck minus radio and engine (and most definately *not* a "Factory Team truck minus CVD's")

If you can swing it, The Factory Team kit's probably the best deal, cause they pack in a ton of hop-ups that'd cost you several hundred dollars purchased aftermarket, and most of them are performance-oriented (so they actually help make the truck faster, not just prettier ;) )

As for the engine, you're probably not gonna want to spend a whole lot on your first Nitro engine. Unless you're very handy, or very lucky, you'll toast it pretty quickly. I'd highly recommend the OS.12CV, on accounta it's got lots of power, and every and their brother's had one, so it's pretty easy to find information on tuning and troubleshooting. And if you do toast it, you won't have to wait for backordered parts!

Hope this helps. If you have more questions, I'd suggest you start plowing through the mighty RC10GT Vehicle Forum on this site, cause you'll learn the answer to just about every question you can come up with regarding this truck.
