TIRE WEAR WOULD BE NO PROBLEM SINCE RUNS WOULD ONLY LAST 30 SECONDS OR SO!!IT WOULD BE NO TOUGHER ON YOUR EQUIPMENT THAN YOUR AVERAGE CLUB RACE!!I'VE GOT SEVERAL IDEAS IN MY HEAD AND HAVE THE MEANS TO GET IT GOING IF I CAN GET ENOUGH PEOPLE INTERESTED!!

For a long time, I've been trying to convince Kevin Hetmanski, the 4 x 4 guy, to build a crazy hill-climb truck with super-long rear trailing arms (think of the swingarm on a purpose-built hill-climb motorcycle). email him at kevinh@airage.com and tell him you want to see it too!

I currently have a purpose built hillclimb car that has twin 5 turn modifieds(thanks Mike Dunn!!)and is powered by ten 2400 cells!
If things get going with my series,i plan on running it in the unlimited division!!I really have given this alot of thought and am ready to get things going(this is no joke)
SO COME ON GUYS AND LET ME KNOW YOUR INTEREST!! ;)

To answer your question, the idea i have right now is to make the hills not so steep, but with loose dirt, etc. This way the car will struggle with traction and it will make it more of a challenge for the driver!I believe that it should be more of a drivers race than just slapping in a hot mod motor and going out and setting a record! ;)

For this competition u would probly want to gear your RC down to **** rather than gearing up to the moon!LOL

I think you should put two available courses, one that has large bumps that are tall and steep so as to be hard to get over, but with slightly more traction, the other course would not have these however would give less traction.

Question, are you going to have an insanely angled hill like 70-80 degrees r are you going to have a something like 60-70 degree hill that is real loose? I think that with the available traction in tires and the power of the motors the hills would have to have a substantial angle to bo the cars down to where it is a challenge to get up the hill. How tall would you make the hill?? If it is a low angle I think you'd have to make it pretty tall, and if it is steep than still tall but not as tall. Also, would you lose your turn in the heat if you flipped your truck?

WOW! ive seen a double post but never a QUAD.!!!
Dude, you guys need to lay off those dial-up modems. IT WILL WORK, press it once. Get a cable modem too, theyre faster so it wont give you a chance to click it twice.

You would aslo have to have another class for front wheel drive cars/trucks. Or would they be considered unlimited
DJ BlendeR

Kart, why would FWD be in unlimited? 2WD is 2WD, if it is driven in the front it is still considered 2WD. I think that you should do somethin like what real Touring Cars do, if there is a truck that can climb it real quick and is beating everyone, he should be given reward points, which is where weight is added, this would make it so these guys would have to try harder too, and setup their trucks. I mean, just cuz you have money doesnt mean you should win.

A front wheel drive car/truck wounldn't flip over as easily. That's why I thought it would be in unlimited.

Alot of you guys have hillclimb racing for cars confused with hillclimb racing for cycles!!This would be more like pikes peak than anything else!!Frontwheel drive would be unlimited because if the person wants to enter itin unlimited instead of 2wd,fine!!In that case i would allow him to run with any motor he or she chooses!!After all it is that persons choice!!I do not believe in he who has the most money wins,so its the drivers choice,2wd class or unlimited!!
kartrun
06-09-2001, 06:12 PM
Let me better explain myself!!If you want to enter a frontwheel drive car in 2wd or unlimited, that is fine!!The only differance would be in 2wd,you would run by strict rules...in unlimited, you would be able to run whatever!!You would be at a disadvantage but it is your choice!!But as far as i am concerned, you can enter both classes just change the running gear, etc.!!I DO NOT believe in "he who has the deepest pocket wins"and my rules in all the classes EXCEPT unlimited(because it is that,UNLIMITED!!)would reflect my belief in it should be the driver that wins not some expensive new custom built motor, etc. that you just bought with that big wad of money you have in your pocket!!If you enter unlimited just be ready to see ALOT of deep pocket guys running because that is a class that requires DEEP POCKETS!! :D

Front wheel drive cars would be considered "unlimited" and would be able to run any motor and battery to makeup for the disadvantage of not having 4wd!!

I ran my frontwheel drive hillclimb racer today!!Its got a 7 turn mod with 7 cells!!I totally missed the tire choice and it melted the tires after 10 or so runs!!It was great!! ;)

Man, now you make me wanna build some wild rail chassis hill climber with Jugg axles and stuff. We would have to keep ProjectTwin away cus he would always win with some kinda wild project truck. :D
Personally, I'd love to see a bike-hillclimb type event.
I would run several classes... 2wd, 4wd, unlimited, and (my personal favorite), base line components.
Base line would be basically any 2wd vehicle you want, but using a single type of motor say an M540 with a 6 cell power pack. Gearing, chassis, scale, etc are up the individual driver.
The hillclimb would be a steep, tall slope, with loose terrain, and moguls.
Not sure how I would score to determine standings though.... I just think watching guys go balls-out to get up 60 degree or so slope would be a blast.
Too bad the Chicago area seems kind of dead for R\C car enthusiasm. :(

You would also have to have a steadily increasing slope. Lets have it start out at say...35* and then get up to 75* by the end. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/rough/2ar15smilie.gif

Yeah...project twin is nice but i have a project myself that would give him a run for his money!! PROJECT:TWIN03R.....in simple terms its a tamiya ta03r-trf that is powered by twin custom 5 turn mods and 10 cells! Its a monster when it comes to hillclimb racing and it will smoke the car above!!My buddy has a 1/8 scale serpent vector and we raced the other week and in a straight line,i beat him by about 7-8 car lengths!!So i say this...."project twin you listening?"..."lets get it on" ;) :D

You could also set up like a little shack and sell stuff like costom slipper lcutches and super long A-arms.
I think you guys are starting to dream a little bit. "a little shack and sell stuff like costom slipper cutches and super long A-arms."? Umm, stick with the subject bro, and be realistic...
blegris

That would be sweet but...
The hill for the nitro division would have to be made of some very loose dirt/sand or you would literally 'smoke' your clutch.
right?
