What are your thoughts on the LRP AI Bullet ESC? It took me ages to decide what ESC to get for my Drift car but I went with this one because of its no motor limit and really low price. I like the idea of it being fully automatic too. I just don't know much about the AI's and what the disadvantages are. Here are some details.

No motor turn limit

Handles 4-7 cell battery packs, 4.8V-8.4V

AI (Artificial Intelligence)-no manual user setup required just pull throttle on transmitter to set up

Motor and battery connectors installed-no soldering needed

INCLUDES:

One Associated AI Bullet Reverse Electronic Speed Control with motor capacitors, tie-wraps, mounting tape, user guide and color sticker set

REQUIRES:

Installing on vehicle and connecting battery and motor

SPECS:

The A.I. part of it is cool(no setup), but you have to remember. When you turn the ESC on pull back (forward) on the controller. Because if you hit reverse on the controller, the ESC thinks that is forward. I found out while racing one afternoon. I Couldn't figure it out, the car went into reverse when I went to race, so I switched the Throttle reverse on the controller. Then coming down the straight in 2nd place the car stop and went into reverse. I had to stop and switched the throttle reverse back and continueed on. In 5th. The next race I notice what I did wrong before I started and shut off the ESC turned it back on and punched the throttle. Good to go. Others I have spoken to have had the same thing happen to them. So it's common. But I love the one in my ride.

I've got the AI Super, which is similar but with a 14 turn limit. It's not a bad ESC for the money, but I don't like the brakes much. When I hit the brakes, the wheels will lock up and go into reverse before the truck is even stopped. So it's hard to stop quickly in a straight line. Novak's smart braking system is better, IMO. Also, mine will thermal if I run my 14 turn Serpentine for too long in the grass. And, yes, it is geared correctly.

I have the A.I. Automatic Super Reverse which as noted above is similar, but with a 14 turn motor limit. This ESC came with my TC4 RTR. It has been reliable, however I have not used other ESCs, so I can't compare its function to others. The brakes seem to work OK without lock up.

One thing to note is that the BEC provides only 5 volts. This means that steering servos powered by this ESC will be slower than their rated speeds as servos need 6 volts to operate at full speed. I avoided this problem by getting servo that runs on a 7.2 volt FET line. I soldered the FET feed line to the inside of my ESC connected to the positive battery feed.

i have the super one too, and whenever the next door neighbor is using his ham/sideband radio, my pede just stops... no big deal though as i only bash at home when im testing mods...

After further testing, I am not so happy with my A.I. Super. When running hard with full throttle and lots of braking, I get thermal shutdown before I exhaust a 3800 MaH pack running a stock (27 turn, 24 degree) motor. I think I'll be finding a more robust ESC shortly.
