Kyosho will be releasing an all-new Mini Inferno ST (Mini Truggy) just in time for Christmas. This isn’t a Mini Inferno with a truck body and wheels slapped on it. It’s almost completely redesigned with endless cool features. Here’s what we were able to find out:
FEATURES
-Oil-filled shocks
-Sealed 4-gear diffs (adjustable with silicone fluid)
-Longer suspension arms and driveshafts (true truggy stuff)
-Larger diameter wheels and tires with foam inserts
-Redesigned shock towers with gussets for strength
-Parts for changing rear toe, camber, and ride height will be included
-RTR with standard Mini Inferno electronics

Oh wow. I was always thinking of a mini truggy. Now I would just love to see a mini dual belt sedan :D But its very nice. I guess I may get this to add to my RC18T.

Actually as I see it. The RC18T and Losi Mini are Stadium trucks. The Hotbodies MiniZilla, PTI and Duratrax are MT, and the new Inferno is a truggy.

Id also love to see the layout!
I like the shocks , smart move. also the adjustable toe, caster, etc makes it more racable - which its cool! All things I did to my rc18t but if this thing has it, awesome...and if the suspension is beefy, and its more 1/16th itll be awesome.....assuming itll do what the 18t will with the mamba :) (speedwise)
I initially read soso things about the speeds and mambas but make this will be a totally different who knows.......letssssss seeee inside???

Here we go again with the mt/truggy war
Call me crazy but it looks like a 4wd Stadium Truck to me....
Never heard ne1 call the RC10T a truggy...And all it essentially is, is a buggy with bigger tires ect....
I really don't get it....Even people call the Lightning "Stadium" Truck a truggy..
This little ST is might be awesome....But like anything Kyosho the price is gonna be high...Over here in Japan the pricing on these come out to a whopping 26,429 Yen....which is about 250 Bux....(depends on the yen rate)
Just not worth it in my book.... And I don't expect the price to be that much lower when it becomes available for sale in the states....
But anything would be an improvement over the Mini Inferno which is one of the worst stock designs I've ever seen....
The amount of money needed to be spent in order to improve the Half 8 is dumb...Also it looks like they stuck with the AA battery scheme....My Grandma can run faster than this...Looks like the ST will be a bit better out of box due to the diff and shock upgrade...
Bahh....
Here is some more looks at the truck HERE (http://www.kyosho.co.jp/web/products/car_bike/half8/mini_inferno_st_ready/mini_inferno_st/mini_inferno_st-e.html) and HERE (http://www.kyosho.co.jp/web/products/car_bike/half8/mini_inferno_st_ready/lineup/lineup-e.html)

Mamba's are not a good fit for Mini Inferno's. To small. Get a AON 4900 and a Mamba 25 esc and you will be much happier. You can drop in a 10 cell GP1100 pack if you really wanted to ;) .

Call me crazy but it looks like a 4wd Stadium Truck to me
That's what a truggy is... a 4WD stadium truck that has been converted from a buggy. And it all fits too.... consider this....stadium trucks are 1/10th scale.... and the mini-t and RC18 are 1/18th, this truck was once the buggy and is 1/16. Buggies are 1/8th scale, bigger then the 1/10th scale trucks, hence this truck is 1/16th, bigger then the 1/18th. It all fits into the scales between the 1/10th trucks and the 1/8th truggies. If there's any car here that doesn't really follow the "rules" so to speak, it's the RC18 because it's 4WD, and stadium trucks aren't 4WD, unless you include HPI's trucks, but i don't think those are legal to race at anything above the club level racing.

GS is releasing a 1/10 4wd Stadium Truck.
Does anyone know if the parts are interchangeable between the Half 8 and the Truggy?
StevePond
10-06-2005, 03:03 PM
Yes, mostly. The shocks, and diffs (though I'm not 100-percent on the center diff), and suspension arms should be interchangable, although I'm pretty sure the parts needed to convert them will only come after they've made enough parts for production units.

Let me clarify this a little bit because we just discussed it yesterday. The top three in the Mini-Inferno class will receive the first three production Mini Inferno ST trucks to arrive in the US. These will be arriving around Christmas time as of the last release estimate, so each driver will definately be getting one of these trucks as you mentioned, but not at the race. They will be delivered to their home as soon as they arrive in the US. There should be a couple production prototypes on display at the race if you want to check them out.

Steve, KYOSHO NEEDS A METAL DIFF GEAR OPTION FOR THESE MINIS!! Sorry for the yelling but I have been having trouble keeping the plastic center diff gears from stripping on my 3s lipo brushless system. This seems like the only option to me. Also the only place I have been able to find these gears is from a store in Hong Kong. So it takes about 15 business days :( Other than this my buggy is awesome. I have beat it to death and it just keeps chugging away.
Plastic gears of the mini's size are just not able to handle the higher power brushless systems. I know you are just one man and Kyosho is a huge International company, but is there some petition for the gears that I can start? Its definetly going to be a money maker for Kyosho. Heck if I wanted I could build almost the whole buggy out of aluminum, so why not the gears. I have seen the ball diff conversion, but am not sure if that would help enough so I have been reluctant to drop the $20 on it.
Steve Pond of Kyosho let me drive the new Mini Inferno ST today on their test track at the iHobby show. The truck is quite an excellent handling mini and the suspension was amazingly active for such a small and light truck.

if the ST isnt out yet....how can we tell you??
TimisTim
11-08-2005, 01:34 PM
Well c0sie this question can be answered by simply looking at the model in the pictures. If you know anything about the Inferno buggy you will notice it runs the same motor and the chassis is the same around the mount and steering assembly. Now take into account how big the stock motor is and you can guess that a mamba will fit easily since they are only about 33mm long. I run a feigao 200 12L in my inferno and had to grind the extra metal at the end of the can to stop it from rubbing on the steering assembly, but the feigao motors are longer than the mambas.
Now with that said the mamba wont be the right motor for the job though. As has been said before the mambas are to small of a motor for a larger 4wd model of this sort. They just dont have the torque to get it moving and will tend to heat up to dangerous levels.
StevePond
11-11-2005, 05:28 AM
Jeremy won the Potbelly's race with a Mamba. They even went with the smaller motor to make the power more controlable based on my understanding. I think the Mamba motor works fine, it just needs the right gearing.
rckid11
11-11-2005, 10:06 AM
The Mamba can heat up quite a bit in a mini inferno. You need heatsinks and/or a fan.
TimJohnson
11-15-2005, 01:21 AM
A Mamba will fit in the ST. You will get excesive heat if you use the High KV motor. the higher the KV the least amout of torq. The lower the KV the more torq, creating less heat. But a small fan is still a good thing to have reguardless of what KV motor you want to use.

Steve, I've got a few buddies who are trying to get a 1/18 4WD class going at our local track with their Mini Infernos. They both say that their Infernos are super-dialed and that they love them (one of them even raced it in stock buggy since his XXX-BK2 was broken; he was running in 3rd until the battery dumped). Anyways...the point is that I want to go race with them, and I think this is the rig to have. It looks great, and if the buggy drives like a dream (after some oil filled shocks, a motor upgrade, and a rechargable battery), I assume that the truggy should be just as good. I'm a truck kind of guy rather than a buggy kind of guy, so I want one of these. Any further word on when they'll be available here?

Tower doesn't carry Kyosho any more because they suck and they screwed Kyosho in the past. Any decent hobby shop should be able to get Kyosho's products from either Kyosho direct, or through HRP.

Any comment on the aluminum diff gears Steve? I haven't had any problems with the center diff since I added some aluminum bits to help with chassis flex but the extra stress has apparently been pushed to the front and rear diffs. I am going through one or the other every other week.
If not.......the ST's diffs look larger, could they be swapped to the buggy?

The stock motor does not have enough power to push it, since the truggy is pretty much heavier than the half 8.
I would suggest that anyone getting into this would want to look at a definate Motor Hopup to brushless atleast if not NITRO !! ;)

The only difference between the Half 8 & ST are the diffs, longer arms, axles, body and wheels. So I'm not sure how you come up with the idea that the ST is heavier than the Half 8. I have both and there isn't much of a difference in the weight. The biggest difference between them is the ST has diffs like a 1/8 buggy and the Half 8 doesn't.

Dude....The ST weighs in at 930Grams and the Inferno at 800Grams comparatively thats almost 130 Grams heavier which means that the same motor would be pushing that much more weight logically it wont go faster than the buggy.....I didnt come up with this....
All i am saying is that if you need this buggy to run you need a high torque motor. so If u have got any good combo's in mind let me know.

Energizer Alkalines are 1.5V a piece. so a 6 pack gives u 9 Volts
NIMH packs give u 1.2V a piece therefore it gives u only 7.2V........
I agree that u need to get good packs but there is definately more punch in the energizer packs...try it ! you would know what i am talking about.
Moreover i am waiting for a li po 3 cell pack to be made for this.....

The ST will go faster, because of the taller tires, or at least match the buggy speed.
If yiou go brushless, do not go hi KV. Go with like the Tekin 6500 or the mamba 5600. The Higher the RPM, the less torque you will have and the hotter the motor will get.

You can already get 11.1V LiPo saddle packs for the Inferno's.

Those alkalines might give decent punch for a minute or so but then they start to dump. A pack made out of good cells like ib1400's would have probably the same amount of punch and it would last considerably longer then the alkies. Believe me dude, if those alkalines were SO great hobbyist would be using them!
While I don't own a ST I know there are plenty of guys running 3c lipo packs. Try doing some homework before getting pithy with people.
