What can I put on my backyard track to make the dirt more hardpacked like the blue groove trackswe race on? I spray roundup and water etc. What else can I put on it? Baking soda or somethimg?

that kinda depends, what kind of dirt are you starting out to work with??

Its just plain old So Cal dirt. Pretty soft stuff. Almost powdery. I just want to get it to firm up a bit.

I spend enough money on this stuff already.
I rather not hire dirt haulers etc.

do u have a roller you can flatten it out with? i have no clue where you get em' but i'm sure you could find em' some where. you dont want it to hard packed because if it gets really packed down then you will just wear tires out real fast. pack it enough for you to slide it corners with worn down tires, and turn like a touring car with knobby ones.

The only way to get a blue groove track is to have a clay track. You can run on the loose stuff you just need the right tires but you'll still be spinning the tire all the way around the track. Acually, I think its more fun racing in the soft stuff than a grooved track.

yea me too. i mean you dont want it real loose, but you want it loose enough to get some roosters goin' around a hairpin!

That roller thing sounds like a good idea. I want to get it hard packed as I can because the tracks where my son and I race are blue groove and I want to practice on a similar track if at all possible. Just think, two hours of practice 5 times a week and race twice a week. Thats what I want to do.

you could try what I call test cylinders
they are round pieces of concrete that weigh about 25pds. I use them to pack down dirt after I do some work on it and then I wait for a rain and then I run on it, it gets very smooth after a while.
not sure where you could find them but someone else might know
hope i helped

I have heard of people that mix in a little bit of concrete to the top, the really fine powdery stuff, water it down, and pack it TIGHT!
