Hey there guys, well I'd first like to thank fester- Seeing you do your body made me go buy one and do it! Thanks man lol.

Okay, So I had to run down to the hoby shop today to get my rush running again, figured while I'm here I might as well get a body to work on! So I looked around and didn't really find anything I liked They mainly have bodys for the monster trucks and touring cars. I ended up getting a '97 Doge duragno for a monster truck, even though I ONLY own a nitro rush (rally truck) I figured I'd do this one up for practice and sell it. Anyways.
So I brought it home and got to work after some bashing with my newly fixed rush!

Here is the outcome for tonight and probly a few days since hell I mean school starts tomorrow and work right after school.

I'm not sure for colors, I know I'm either doing the flames in metalic charcoal grey or the rest of the body in the grey. What do you think about it so far, even though its just some paper with the flames copied**

Later guys.

I am going to be airbushing, I've got two pasche VL's and a single stage brush. I'm thinking either a flourecent red I have for the flames, just need to get a flourecent yellow to add to the effect a little.

Hey guys well today was my birthday so I took it off from work and got some work of my own done! (quite alot!) I decided I didn't want just a flame design on it so I added a kind of ripping effect. The green I used I'm not that happy with, it was ment to be more matalic but I think its ok for my first attempt ever...
What do you guys think? I'll get some better pics when I can. (working 1230-7 for the next 4 days and from 745am-1130 I'm at school.

I'm not totaly finished yet, still have to do anothercoat of metalic black, I wish I could pick up the metalic flakes inside here on my camera, they look really good in the black. Next up is to detail the flames better and then the lights, bumpers ect. Hopefully later this weekend I can get some work done!

Happy Birthday (a day late)!!!

Giz, looks awesome. You're right, a darker metallic green would have gone better. It's still a great looking ride.

If you want some constructive criticism for your next flame job, then here goes: The flames have a good look to them but the openings in between tongues of flame look a bit too large. I'd enlarge them slightly to even them out some. Also, pinstriping the flame will help it stand out more and really set it off.

A great flame mask is one done by Calvin3. Take a look at his website for the mask if you're wanting something with a slight Celtic look for your next job.

You have a couple of really good airbrushes, put them to use. Use a slightly darker color of your primary flame color, and add some dimension to the flames. Spraying on your mask so the overspray does the work for you, lightly outline a good majority of the flames especially around the large curved sections. Don't go overboard or the flame tips will look way out of line. It doesn't take much and the paint doesn't need to be completly opaque, you want the natural color of the paint to show through. It'll give the edges a slightly shadowed look so they look round instead of flat.

The OD green is just a bit too bright for the flames, but I know it was accidental. A nice metallic hunter green color would have worked out better.

For the ripping effect, a few drop shadows would have made it stand out more. Once again, aiming for the masking (not the body) use a transparent charcoal or similar transparent paint and allow the overspray to create your drop shadows.

It's a good paint job, so don't take my criticisms as negative. Practice with your brush on newpaper print, scrap lexan, whatever you can get your hands on. More practice only means more control on your next lid.

Lastly, liquid mask is the stuff you put on before painting. It's like latex and allows you create masking. Fascoat is the protectant you spray on over the paint to protect the paint. You don't use Fascoat on bare lexan then put paint over it and hope it works. I know what you meant, and so did others so no harm no foul.

Great first attempt. What you learned from painting this one will only improve the rest of your paint jobs.

Thanks for the tips piggy! Thy are really helpfull, I wanted to do the flames with a few darker shades and stuff but I didn't want to get too ambitious *spelling?* on my first try. I will definately use those techniques on my next attempt and I will practice later also! Thanks guys. I'm really bummed out by the green but I guess Thats the way it goes.

I wouldn't be too bummed by the green. It's not as bad as you think. The problem you have is the same every one has, you are your own worst critic. There's nothing wrong with your paint job. The lines are clean and crisp with no bleeds and the colors are smooth with no overshadowing of one another. Painting isn't easy, but there's loads of fun to be had. You have tremendous potential and you have the nerve to try airbrushing for the first time and post your results for all to see and criticize.

Learn from your mistakes, practice, and astound us with your second attempt. The best painters I've found all agree that their first attempts at RC painting resulted in what can be best called: abortions. You, on the other hand, have learned to take it all in stride and dislike one color, not the entire job.

Okay, your ego is inflated far too much for your own good, so get back to painting, slacker! :D
