What to use? I've got a screw on lid type thats laying sideways with nipples for lines out the sides. Lid needs sealing. Would rather it not be permanent but if it has to, then JB Weld should suffice right?

I know of a number folks who swear by it(jb weld). wouldn't recomend any of the rtv stuff since they require exposure to air to cure...you could try the auto parts for gasket material(neoprene) or (light bulb) epoxy an o-ring to the lid

JB is what I'm thinking too. Just don't want to do it up for good. If you've been keeping up with the treads, I used RTV and learned a new meaning of the word MESS. :o

er yes. sorry to hear of your troubles involving errant strings. thats why I suggested the o-ring/jb route, if they will hold up to 250 psi(well actually more, the fitting is only rated that high, and I haven't heard of anyone blowing the o-ring)...they should work fine for a fuel tank.

was conscerned about fuel proof too. Guess thats covered.

all of the o-rings I've found locally are neoprene which is (far as I know) fuel proof(or at least very resistant) 'Holly' uses them in some of their carburators(they don't hold up well to mishandling, but an occasional opening of the lid shouldn't cause prob.s). heh if you do the epoxy right you could make the ring replacible. good luck.

Ring is not an option at this point. I'm wanting to go with a fuel proof sealant. Any other ideas besides epoxy?

could ask at your local auto parts store(since you're running gas).

Went with the JB Weld. Tank only cost a few bucks and I'm really wanting to run tomorrow. We'll see. Hope its dried in time.
