I plan on getting the 6-Cell Epic/Trinity - GP 3700 Team Matched Batteries.
-I currently use Sanyo 1900 Ni-Cd Cells; I want to see if the Matched Ni-MH Cells would give me More Speed.....But I`ve heard Bad and Good things about Ni-MH Cells.
-Would a Matched Ni-MH Pack give me More Speed?
-How long will these Ni-MH Cells last?
These Batteries would Cost Me $108.00; I would like them to be a Good product to purchase.
I know some of you guys out there can give me the Facts and Your Opinions on these Batteries.
Thanks
Take Care.

Those batts are one of the best you can buy. You might wanna look at the specs though before buying. Primarily the voltage and runtime.
But 108 dollars?!? Where have you seen that price? The best batts can be bought for around 70.

jumping from 1900 ni-cd cells to 3700 ni-mh cells, you will definately feel a difference. you will have almost double the runtime. These cells will last a long time, but you must take care of them.I would also get The absolute zero discharge tray (http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=TRNTRI22000/158.0). When all the bulbs go out, the pack will be discharged. That will help your packs last longer.

I saw the Epic/Trinity Team Matched - GP 3700 6-Cell Batteries at Tower Hobbies for $100.00.
If you can get them for Less; let me know where.
I`m not really too big on Run-Time. . . . .I`m looking for More Speed.....and if a Matched Pack of Ni-MH Batteries can give me More Speed; I want them.
Thanks

Take a look at some of the smaller battery matching companies. As belila said, the best packs can be purchased for much less than $108. I think SPC (http://www.specpointbatteries.com) is selling their matched, 6-cell, 1.190+ volt GP3700s for $69. GP cells are very durable and should supply many, many great cycles. I'm currently running/racing a matched set of 7-cell, SPC, GP3700 packs in my E-Maxx. I cheaped out and bought only 1.179 volt packs, but they are still very fast.

Erm...the truth? Can't remember :o
Seems the price has gone up since I last checked. They're at 85 now at tower: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJTU0&P=7

If you are just interested in voltage (speed) and not too much about runtime, than I would suggest that you get a matched GP3300 pack with good numbers. This would provide you with speed, good runtimes, and a lower price.

if you are looking for more speed you could go with 3300 and run 7 cells

I agree, it seems the price of 3300s has dropped quite a bit with the new cells floating around. You could probably buy 3 good packs for 100 bux.

I agree. I recently saw 1.180+ volt, 6-cell, matched, GP3300 packs for $33.00.

You're paying too much for a battery. I would say that even to a factory team driver who wants the best batteries.
SMC just recently lowered their prices on all their top packs. They have some very good deals on IB3800 matched packs. For the price you're paying for the Epic pack, you can buy two of the best battery packs in the world from SMC.

Agreed...all the big-name battery packs are extremely overpriced.
I would go with the IB3800's or GP3700's. Check out AXXIS (http://www.axxis-racing.com) for some incredible horsepower.

Why do you keep recommending AXXIS and providing a link to their site when its been under construction for the last few months? If they want to compete with the big boys they should at least let the public know what they sell  !!

I personally wouldn't go that route. All the blatant product plugs week after week after thread after thread are starting to feel a little tacky. Send a pm, send an email, make your own thread for the 'A' company if need be.. but repeated postings all over the place.. ugh. :)

The Axxis site will be up shortly. As Gojira mentioned, if you would like to place an order, just email them. I don't feel as though we have "blatant product plugs". When asked for a suggestion, we give Axxis as one of the possibilities. Almost always, we include other useful information in our postings, not just links. If I didn't feel that Axxis offered the best product, I wouldn't have joined the team.

There are a host of companies selling batteries in different configurations from matched stick packs to matched single cells all varying in prices depending on cells. For non racing use a matched stick pack is pretty good, however by disassembling it them building it in a side by side layout using a good quality battery bar and connectors will greatly increase the cells abiltiy to deliver good voltage even an unmatched stick pack can show increase in performance by rebuilding it and generally are much cheaper to purchase. Either of the newer IB3800 or GP3700 are great cells, if taken care of properly you could sell 2-3 years of good use (if they are anything like the GP3300).
SMC batteries are available through Tower & Stormer Hobbies, Pro Match, TQ Cells, Hyderform Racing, Integy, B&T Racing, Pole Position, Fusion Power, Max Amps, Power Push batteries, Hefty Cells, Whip Lash Batteries and there are many more available direct, or at local shops.

Thanks guys for the good info.
I purchased a Matched 6-Cell Fusion - GP3300 Pack for $65.00.
-I don`t see a big difference in speed. I feel it`s giving me the same speed as the Sanyo 1900 Ni-Cd Pack. . . . .(I`m using the MRC 959 Peak Charger).
-Overall; is Fusion Packs any good?
Thanks

get a new charger the 969 is way nicer than the 959

The fusion packs are very good, you will be pleased with them. If the 1900 pack is running the same as the 3300, something is wrong. Try to find another person who can charge the packs up on a better charger and see if they still perform the same.

The Fusion 6-Cell - GP3300 Pack has more(much more) Run-Time than the Sanyo 6-Cell Ni-Cd 1900 Stick Pack.
-But the Speed is the Same between the packs.
I was thinking a Ni-MH Pack would give me More Speed over the Ni-Cd Pack.
Thanks

If You Want More Speed Go With 7 Cells If Your Esc Can Handle The 8.4 Volts. Go With Higher Mah's For Longer Run Times. When I Just Wanna Play I Run My E-maxx With 2- Duratraxx 3600 Nimh- I Can Get Over 25 Minutes Of Run Time If I'm Doing A Lot Of Climbing. Also I Use Duratrax Twin Pulse Peak Charger. Really Peaks The Batteries And Adds Some Power.

I have a Tamiya TT-01 and a TB Evo 4; they can only hold 6-Cells.....(I think?).
I have the MRC 959 Charger. It`s a Good Charger. It always charges the packs close to 9.1-Volts almost everytime in 1 - charge.....(if it`s a cool day).
Thanks

i think if you use a hump style pack and a nylon/velcro strap you can fit 7 cells into the tt-01 but i'm not posative

I always thought that a NiCd have higher voltage ,therefore more speed than NiMh (especially early in the run).
It is only under higher loads (due to less IR)or later in the run(capacity) that the NiMh Will average higher voltage.
Someone correct if i'm wrong :D

While the newer versions of NiMh cells are producing higher voltage and lower IR than previous cells that .03 increase isn't that much of an increased difference in noticeable speed. What you may notice is that car is running a bit stronger at 4minutes that the 1900 pack.
Charging or discharging the pack at higher rates may help increase some of voltage output.

I have a question about discharging cells. I currently have some cheap 1500 trinity packs that I charge on my Novak Millennium charger and I use lightbulbs to discharge them, this works great for these packs. I to was thinking about buying some matched nimh cells, everyone is talking about using these trays...On these trays do you have to disconnet your deans connections every time you discharge...I think that would be very annoying if that was the case!

09-27-2005, 03:50 AM
Not really, if you do it right, you can still fit a pack with wires still soldered on into most trays to discharge them(I do it all the time with my packs on Novak's Smart Tray, though I do use Powerpole connectors instead of Deans, but that makes no difference in how the wire connects to the cells).....
