two speed transmission

Does anyone know how two speed transmissions work on nitro cars. How does it shift between gears

The top speed is engaged by a clutch similar to the one on your engine's clutch bell. The lower speed is on a 1-way bearing. When the car's in 1st gear, the bearing "grabs" the shaft and moves the car. When the car shifts, the gear simply freewheels on the bearing like any other shaft/bearing combo.
