I purchased a used boat off of ebay, it was the fast electrics 27" mono that comes with a .12 thunder tiger engine. Except the owner put an os .21 rgm engine in the boat. I also found that the hull is actually from the same mold as the aqua jet which is abs plastic instead of fiberglass. So basically I have a fiberglass aquajet with a .21 engine and a tuned pipe. I also found after I bought the boat that the seller was a member of many rc boat forums and had the same problems I am having now.

When I got it the boat seemed locked up like it had too much compression. It was almost impossible to turn over, so I loosened the glow plug and then started it. I ran one tank through it on land, and then brought it out to the water. Problem #1 The steering was very messed up, sometimes it would turn extremely sharp and then sometimes it would barely turn at all, but on land the rudder turned freely either way so I have no idea why it is doing that. Problem#2 I pulled the throttle full and it jumped at least a foot in the air  before taking off, I can fix this with trim tab adjustment ,but it also slowed down throughout the run, and when I pulled the throttle full it would slow down as it was nailed. So it would slow down when the throttle was all the way open. I dont think the engine is too lean because it is barely warm after each run. I all in all am very confused and could use some help answering the two questions I have. I have had some other things happen but this post is all ready long so those are my two starting questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :o Heres the boat http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5990001935&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

These are just a couple of ideas that I have:

1. Steering-it could be that your servo isn't strong enough to move the rudder at speed. Is it full speed when the boat doesn't want to turn at all or is it low speed?

2. Trim-it sounds like you over-adjusted your trim tabs. You've probably got the tabs too far down which is now pushing the bow of the boat down at speed creating a lot of drag with a big loss of top speed. I would reduce the amount that the trim tabs are down. Do it a little at a time and see if you can "sneak up" on the perfect setting where the boat takes off properly but also has a nice top speed.

On the other hand, maybe the boat is just a little overpowered with that engine as well  . Not necessarily a bad thing. You may just have to go a little easy on the throttle from the start.
