that CF work is pretty stellar. I'm going to experiment with some nylon window screen and see how that works out. if it turns out alright i'll probably post a pic. but yeah, that shop ufo site has really inspired me too. ;)

Thanks for the compliment and the crititism. I agree 100%. Next time Im definatly going to tweak it some. To be honest its such a tricky effect that I thought it was a wreck before I applied the black backing..its an elusive effect to acheive and its hard to see untill its done.

ya from what i can gather it is one of the, if not the hardest effect to recreate. You did an awsome job especially for your first try. That 12th scale is awesome too!

WhoMe, nice work!! That last one is very Roly-ish and nicely done! Is the overspray film still on it? If so, any pics without it?

WhoMe
11-29-2005, 05:32 PM
Ill get one up ASAP, crazily enough that body didnt have an overspray film so it still had the remnants of my sharpy all over it in that pic. I had to scrub away at it with some alcohol to get it all off. Asfar as the design cues; Roly and Shop UFO are some of the guys that I really imitated when I started painting..beleive it or not that particular "tribal flame" scheme I did there was one hundred percent WhoMe ^_^. I guess thats how it goes..you emulate the masters for long enough and soon you develop your own way of doing it.

whome-in the last group of 4 bodies, the second car with the neon green front?does the neon paint glow in the dark?or was it the flash from the camera?

extremetmaxxer
05-24-2006, 12:09 AM
very nice paint work, the fire is tricky especially on an rc body! try to avoid white and use a smaller sheild, and read my how to a couple pages back incase you havnt, i like your inspired paint schemes! and its great that you give credit wear deserved but you have yoru own style its a little less refined than them but on it was there, i would try to work a little more with color theory on your bodys use the colors and how they work together to get yoru bodys to have that profesional glow! i think you got mad skillz! keep challenging yourself! you can only get better!

your recent bodys look great, using less colors and more compliments, very racy and very fast lookin

another thing, is to give your bodys nice 3d effect observe light and shoadow then replicate onto your body usually a mix of black and your base color followed by a couple light passes will pull of a great 3d effect. and maybe some additional highlights on your headlights would look good, i know im guilty of that too, my headlights need just a little bit more detail, very complicated little buggers they is!

WhoMe

Fester,
Its just very light Neon green..like two or three coats then backed with white..for some reason the camera made it look radio-active  .

Extreme,
Man thanks for the compiments and the excellent artistic analysis. Its rare that somone looks at my stuff and actually thinks about whats going on there. Its really helpful to have an opinion like that given, thanks. Asfar as color choices go, man thats an awsome topic to pick on cause the wrong choices can really ruin an otherwise fantastic scheme. My biggest problems are arranging complimentary colors in an attractive order; its hard to see it somtimes you know. Im also just getting comfortable with committing to a line or fade with an airbrush..its still alittle shaky...just gotta get over that and SPRAY the paint.

Again thanks for looking!

two things to help you out

remember in art classes (if you took them) they had those color wheels.... GET ONE!! they help a tremendous amount!! i know i have one on hand when ever im painting, if you know how to work colors, then your halfway to creating a photorealistic painting.... learning how colors work is such a valuable artistic tool...

2 for shaky lines try this, dont do it all in one pass especially for them drop shadows! it takes me and charlie b and the rest of the "pros" anywear from 3-15 passes before wear happy! but we spray very thin and very light we build and check build and check.... then with time it gets even easyer.

try it on a peice of paper first try doing one straight line all the way down in a neat way next to the paper, going slower, the speed you would spray if you wear doing an rc body.... get one line down to the tint that you like in one pass.... now try to thin the paint and do many light passes to acheive the same line...

i think you will be suprised by the diffrence! if i were airbrushing a portrait i wouldnt do the chin in one pass. it would probally be done in about 20-30 overlapping lines then built up with colors working from light to dark

and remember to KEEP YOUR AIR ON! dont shut it off when you end a pass, keep it on and shut the paint off to end it, not everything at once... this is something you have to do, its not a "tip" its an order! lol ;)

make sure you understand each of these tips, they should help you a decent ways

any other questions or critiques needed and the people over at www.cfxpaintworks.com will help you out... all artist ready to give you da 411 on whats down in da Erbrush town .......yo..... :D

Nice range of styles! You see a lot of painters who "lock-in" on one style and that's all they do. I also believe in following the styles of the better designers/painters. I see some Frank's Bodies influence in there too.
Well done stuff! You take chances. I like that!

Thanks for the compliment. Asfar as the CF effect goes..I use toolbox liner (Got it at Lowes) as the mask for that look. Put the liner down..spray your silver or white or whatever color you like...then lift it up and spray down the black. Works like a charm.
