How much does a spoiler affect downforce/tracktion. I've designed a ajustable spoiler that is moved by a third chanel. I've also made one that puts more downforce as you squeeze the throttle. The first one helps in the air because it adjusts the pitch of the car. I always get smooth landings. For more info e-mail me.

It makes some down force at high speeds but there so little they don't do all that much.

I would disagree. Depending on the size on the spoiler, it can have considerable effects on stright line stability. More evident in off road than on due to the easy loss of rear tire traction at speed.

I agree with jburger, the rear wing makes a great deal of difference, especially on offroad buggies due to the size of the wing. I have a Schumacher Cat 2000, when during a race the wing came off, the buggy became practically undrivable, the rear end was all over the place at high speeds, I eventually just stopped because I couldn't control it. I can also notice a difference on a touring car if the wing is removed from the body, althought the change is not as dramatic.

I think a wing is of huge importance, mostly at high speeds, but that is true for full scale race cars also.

It does make a small difference on SOME bodies. It really depends on the shape of the body if you get right down to it. For instance..an Acura NSX. The roof doesnt have much of a windshield angle to make much normal downforce and the wing you put on it will provide the rear downforce. NOW, take a truck body or flat-windshield type of body. The windshield deflects more air over the top of the body and right over the wing. Take for instance a NASCAR body...just like that. If the windshield was like a jeep, no air would ever touch the spoiler, or very little at that. Now i may be wrong but it makes sense that that would happen. I know on my Impreza body that when the wing fell off that the rear end was wayyy loose so that makes a big difference on that body. It wasnt a HUGE diff but it was enuff to notice.

I was talking about a little plastic one on the elec. rustler body and once like that. Not once for like the top speeds of 60-70mph that are on the street cars and buggies. Those do make a difference in the control of the car.

Adjustable spoiler...sounds like the old Chaparral Can-Am cars!!! The car had a big airfoil way up way high over the body. Also, the car was designed as an automatic - it had a 3-speed GM auto! So the pedal that would in most cars operate the clutch operated the wing - it could go from prolly a 45 degree angle, maybe less, to downright flat. Very, very cool!!!
