I just put together my first T4 kit. However, I am only getting about 2 minutes out of brand new fresh batteries....anyone have any suggestions as to why?

thanks in advance

did you cycle the batteries before you ran them?

How hot is the motor getting while running? If it is getting extremely hot, check your gear mesh between the spur and the pinion. Also check to make sure the drivetrain is free. To do this, take out the motor and spin the wheels. They should spin feely for about 10 seconds.

yup, thats one thing you need to do is cycle batteries. charge them up, then run them down to a trickle about 5 times in a row. then start to run them down to almost dead and then recharge them. once youve did that a few times they should be ready to go. new batteries dont like to be charged, so it you have to warm them up a bit :) and as rcguy said make sure your motor and wheels are free of obstuctions. good luck.

Hi, I am also charging batteries for a new T-4 right now. What do you mean by, run them down to a trickle. Also, can any one recommend a good resource for battery care.

The batteries I am using work just fine in my other rc cars, so I dont think it is the batteries. I will check to see if my drive train is free....what do i do if it is not free (spin for 10 seconds)? How do I fix that so that it will spin for 10 seconds or so?

As far as my gear mesh, I have the motor backed away as far as I can get it, with out being to far...I followed the instruction book...when I move the spur gear back and forth, it does not move the pinion gear. So I have my mesh pretty close, but not too close.

thanks

If the drivetrain is binding, you have to find where the problem is. It could be anything from a rock jammed in there to a stripped gear that's binding up.

it could also be your bearings.you may need to clean them out with motor spray, and then re-lube after.

The truck is brand new, have not been able to run it long enough to get it dirty. No rocks..nothing in it.

odd, it seems to me if you have checked all these other possiblities you may have a faulty ESC or a short somewhere in your circiut... time to start checking the electrics out. try taking the ESC and putting it into another car and see if the other car has worse run times aswell. if the other car has similar problems its because your ESC is faulty.

Well I found the problem! The ESC connector has a small tab on the side of it that did not let it sit all the way down into the rx. I snipped it off and whala...it runs like a champ!!

thanks for the help though!
