Is there anyone on the forums in the Hudson Valley, or in New York? It seems like there's nothing car related at all around here other than the lifted chevy trucks roaming the back woods. If you're on the forum, post here and show off the NY R/C scene.

The only guys on this forum that I know of are from queens, brooklyn, nassau and suffolk. We all usually post on the club/track forum "long island monster trucks please read". Sometimes they plan trips to go upstate to race at barnstormers. I haven't been there myself but I checked out the website and the track looks pretty good.

If any of you guys are close enough or just want to make the trip out there for the hell of it, a bunch of us from queens and long island are planning a trip up to barnstormers in Chester, NY probably for Saturday Aug. 20. We know it can be hard sometimes to find fellow bashers and are always looking for some new people to run with.

I live in Howard Beach in Queens, NY, and theres no one in my area with r/c's, and I cant make the trips every time to the track when I want to race/bash. Anyone anywhere near me?

Maxx42
08-17-2005, 04:36 PM
Jetski, there are a lot of guys in the queens area that race/bash. Every Sunday there is at least 15 to 20 guys out at Cunningham park all ready for bashing. If you are interested let me know. Most guys run nitro monster trucks. Most of the time I'm the only one running electric (a brushless setup in an emaxx). It's all good fun.

Jetskiboy77

Ill have to check that out, that sounds really good especially since I just got all my NMT2 option parts installed. I am very interested, let me know more.

Maxx42

I have to check with the guys but I'm pretty sure that we'll be there this Saturday at Cunningham Park at around 9 AM. We get there early to avoid the hot summer sun that really beats down on you after a while. Last time I was there, there were about 5 savages, 2 lst's, an mt2, a tmaxx, a jato, a couple of minis and my emaxx. Some guys brought touring cars but they stayed off the road when all the MT's were out there.

Nice, so it wouldnt matter if I had a NMT2? Also are you guys racing or just bashing (either would be great), and what kind of set up do you have there?

Maxx42
08-20-2005, 07:46 AM
We usually set up cones for bashing in an oval. The lot is a decent size but once you get everyone out there it "shrinks" due to all the traffic. The guys are great and are very knowledgeable / helpful in troubleshooting nitro engines. Everyone is there for bashing mainly or to get some practice in driving after making some adjustments. They also organize trips to other tracks. I know that a group of them are going to dirtrunners in jersey tomorrow. In a couple of weeks we will probably head over to barnstormers upstate ny. We will be out at CP today at 9AM until about 1.

Jetskiboy77
08-20-2005, 03:52 PM
Youll be there tomorrow from 9-1 right? Ill try to come by, but I doubt it tomorrow since my sister is coming over. On this oval track, is it just dirt, or are there any jumps set up?

Maxx42
08-21-2005, 09:17 AM
We only set up the oval if we get enough people that want to practice racing (whick is usually every time). On Saturday, there was only 7 of us out there. I used that outing to fine tune the suspension on my maxx to get the best handling possible out of the setup that I have. It ran extremely well. I was able to powerslide out of turns and it handled much like an LST. The guys will be out there today too. I won't make it because I was out too late last night and never got a chance to charge my batts. Also I blew out a front cvd and haven't rebuilt it yet. I'll let you know when we go out there next. If you run with that mt2 that would go good. There are a couple of other guys that run stadium trucks.

Jetskiboy77
08-22-2005, 04:27 AM
So you guys are there Saturday and Sunday? And are theyre any jumps? Im glad you said my NMT2 would be fine there, I just dropped about 600$ into it (long story of how this truck came to me) and my truck is just asking to be thrashed around with. Plus I love running with other people, and I need to see if my money was spent wisely, and what other parts I need to get. Im really glad I found out you guys arent too far away. Please tell me the next time everyone is there bashing.

Cool deal. It's definitely a good place to try out any new hop ups to your ride. Usually we are only out there on Sundays, but the past couple of weeks we've been going out there for both days. We usually went to a track out in Coram on Saturdays, but they don't take good care of it so we're going to stop going there for a few weeks to see if the guy gets the hint. You're definitely welcome to come run with us at CP though.

Maxx42
08-22-2005, 07:30 PM
Hey jetski. We are probably going out to South Shore Hobby this Saturday out in Corum. One of the guys is going to talk to the shop owner to see if he will get it race ready for us.

Jetskiboy77
08-23-2005, 04:33 AM
Ill have to see if my dad will drive me there, its easier for me than if I drive there. Thanks a lot for telling me about this, and thanks for the invite. What time would you guys get together? I have work at 5 in the afternoon, but I would think you guys would get together much earlier in the morning. If you guys go to that race track, would it be split up into classes and us need to run lap counters? Right now I would much rather meet with people, check were not on the same frequency, and run the heck out of our rides. Now I need to find exactly where Corum and CP are located.

Maxx42
08-23-2005, 08:32 AM
The track in Corum is a bit of a hike from Queens. It's about 2.5 miles off of exit 63 on the LIE. CP is right off the Grand Central (Francis Lewis Blvd exit). We usually get to the track in Corum (South Shore Hobby) for about 11:00 and stay for a few hours. The track itself is small and tight but it has a few good jumps. Everyone's first experience on that track was a rough one. Since the track is so tight, the slightest miscue will send you off course. IMO if you can handle yourself well around this track you shouldn't have much of a problem anywhere else. Again most of the guys will be running MT's so if all you have is the MT2, there will probably be only a couple of other guys with stadium trucks out there (who also bring their MT's - a Revo and an LST).

Jetskiboy77

Oh, would being the only stadium truck cause a problem? I dont want to mess anything up. I dont own a monster truck, Im more of a stadium truck man. And Francis Lewis Blvd isnt too bad at all, my school and my friend's schools werent to far from there.

You definitely won't be the only stadium truck. I was out at Flushing Meadow Park today and I was the only MT out there. There were 2 MT2's, a Jato and a1/8 scale Ofna buggy. On only 14 cells I really couldn't keep up with them (the Mt2's and the buggy were modded and were as fast as the Jato). I was a good 5 mph slower. As they say though "Run what ya brung." I even bust out an RC18MT between runs for myself. Soon I'll throw a mamba system in there and it will hang with those stadium trucks on pavement with no problem.

Hey Ron have you ever heard of QURC? I'll talk to some of the boys and maybe someday we can set up a roadtrip with you guys in the Bronx. We were going to get a group together for a trip to Barnstormers. I checked out the pics on their site and it looks like a good setup.

Glad to meet you Mike. I'm Mike as well. The Flushing Meadows thing actually wasn't planned. We were going to go to CP but then decided to go to Flushing Meadows at the last second. I'm off from work for a while so I have a lot of extra time on my hands. I was actually going to check out a track in Farmingdale today. I wasn't going to run out there, just check it out to see if it is as good as it looks online.

It's Queens United RC. Just a group of us that get together and set up road trips. I believe we are going to set up a trip to Barnstormers in a couple of weeks if you're interested. I've never been there myself but guys that I have talked to all say how great the track is. Also when the vent system is completed and running, we are going to go to Raceway in Farmingdale off of route 110. I'll post more info when things are more finallized for either place..

No I wasnt there today Mike. Im 90% sure I will be there this upcoming Sunday. What time should I be there? I dont really have that many crystal options so what should I do to ensure I get one? Today I took out my truck by my house in the dirt with a few jumps just to see how my truck is off road with all the new parts on it and there was quite a difference. I thought it was good before but its much, much better, and I cant wait to try it out at CP. If your there next week, ill be the 17 year old kid with a NMT2 with a candy apple red truck body, and a MX3 radio. Id sure like to talk to you or anyone else there in person, so come over if you want if you see me.

Good to hear. I myself won't be there this coming Sunday because I'm going on vaca. You're still welcome to come down if you want. I'll tell Mark (QURC pres.) that you might be there and he'll keep an eye out for ya. We might be there on Saturday also. On either day guys start showing up around 9:30. You'll definitely be the youngest dude there (most guys are in there late 20's to early 30's and a couple older).

Jetskiboy77

Im usually the youngest one at ever get together of r/cs ive been too. I dont want you to think im an inexperienced kid, I may be young, but not stupid. I usually get looked down upon and rudely talked to because of my age. Im really looking foward to coming and cant wait to run off road with a bunch of people, because ive only ran 1/10 onroad in a big group, never any off roading.

That won't ever be a problem. Nobody has that "Holier than thou" type attitude out there. I was just concerned that you might have felt a little out of place being younger than just about all of the guys out there. I, like all of the guys I've met out there, keep an open mind to anyone that comes down to race/bash. No matter what your age or background there is always something to learn about the hobby from each other. If you,ve been driving a lot, I would expect that you probably could outdrive most of us out here. I met this one guy down at South Shore Hobby that is sponsered already and he's only 18. For now I hope we get good weather for the weekend so we can run out at CP. Hope to see ya there.

Yeah that place up there even has room to drag race real cars! LOL. I'd also like to get in on the offroad action, although come next year I may be moving futher up north...mostlikely into the CT area.

I go to floyd during the week to practice on road there in the track area... I have seen MANY get bused for drag racing there. The NYPD has a HUGE facitily there.....I used to race my trucks there but I dont have the need to go there on the weekends as we have nice crowd at CP and we have some great club style racing...I heard about that track in bridgeport, do you know the name or the site address ?

That's their site. One thing though few racers got their gripe about that track especially when Tom Baffer SR hosts the races. There is also limited parking so you gotta get there early. The area is also another thing.

Is there any way of finding out if this is legit? Maybe someone could call up Brooklyn Hobbies and find out for sure.

Mark, since all you guys are getting into 1/10 onroad electric, maybe one day we could do and onroad thing and ill bring my nitro tourer, or we could go to Flloyd and do the onroad there once. Just a suggestion, I think its worth thinging about. My on road is just sitting on my shelf and when I saw you guys with the TC3's and 4s on Saturday I figured we could do some onroad too.

Currently Floyd is holding electric onroad races. I have my gear, but not the right car; it's a Tamiya TL-01 :D. Great rally car though, but that's about it. Gotta check with the guys on the forums to see if they will do on/offroad.

Mark-Hows it going down at QURC? Never really got to go there due to the traffic and possible event of no one showing up. :( Heard some of the guys been bailing out.

Sab - We have had the BEST season ever.....the only ones bailing out are the ones that are not welcome !!! lol (they know who they are !) You should try and make it out as we have fun second to none out there lately and no GRIPING or WHINING ! lol

That place you are talking about is on Gun hill road ? (ill pass) If I am going to pay the tolls I would go to dirtrunners or to the barn.

Mike - regarding the onroad.....Floyd has racing there on Sunday but I have heard that they have computer problems and they are unable to complete a race without problems etc.....I practice there all the time during the weekdays.

CP this weekend !

Oh, the offroad place? Naw I'm not gonna go there lol. Bridgeport is Onroad. They have a really nice track, but the limited parking spoils stuff. You'd just have to bring all your gear from the vehicle with ya to the track so coming early is beneficial. I'll try to head out to ya and see what's goin down. When do ya get together again?

Register if you are not still on the QURC forum - we have the permit to be in CP till the End of October and we have a regular off road crowd. We are going to Barnstormers on October 9th but we have been out almost every Saturday and Sunday ......

Hope to see you out there soon...Is the bridgeport track indoor ?

Oh I think my name is still on there. Bridgeports track is on that site. It's outdoor and they just race 8th onroad and nitro sedan; no electrics. It's on that link above.

Ty Sab...got it...that is not far from here either and would be a fun road trip to check out.....

That track is very nice, what is story there ? Is it open during the week for practice ? only on weekends ? City of bridgeport runs that ? Interesting

I know, this thread has been forgotten, but in browsing it's applicable and of interest to me now....

I am in the process of moving, from Staten Island to the upstate/hudson valley/capital region of NY. I will be approximately an hour from Poughkeepsie, and if I clocked it right, about 1 from barnstormers, maybe a little more. I wasn't paying the best attention to that when driving on sunday.

I know right now as I am in SI, there are places in NJ to go (trax70 I believe) as well as Brownies when the weather gets nicer, though they only run minis there.

I have checked out via the web, and I think there are a couple tracks in CT/MA that RCCA uses that are within an hour or so of where I am at, so it certainly seems like there are options

would be curious to find others in that area (518/845 AC). wouldn't mind finding out more about those bashing in Poughkeepsie either. Right now, I am basing my MGT on my property, and occassionaly my mLST in my office or my basement. My RC10GT is on the table, been DOA for a few years, seeing if it's worth the wrench time...

Tmaxx is a nice truck to bash. If you want to really bash a stock truck, the Savage and MGT are more durable though. Revo is more towards racing. Sry dude, but I don't live in Brooklyn and moved from there 3 years ago.

We usualy meet at a place called Miller Feild. It's an old small aircraft airport that has been converted into a rather large state park. It has great off road areas as well as on road. Here's a funny little site I found on it:

http://www.geocities.com/miller_field/

On a good day there are about 15-30 guys and gals that meet up and bash. We usualy bring ramps and have a blast. Let me know if you wanna come down to bash and I'll tell you where and when the festivities are happening.

You can check out the videos on our site if you want to get an idea of the kind of bashing that goes on.

FYI, we have been aving a very nice crowd every Sunday. We have been setting up a track that has been the site of some great Monster truck racing. The surface is sandy tarmac. We will be holding annual event sponsored by NYC hobbies later on this year in Cunningham Park.
