Just getting back into after I retired (destroyed) my hornet when I was 15 & need advice. With the limited amount of research I've done thus far I have these questions:

rs4 mt seems like a great 4wd truck, but no one talks amout em. Am I missing something? won't buy anything until i see the emaxx, but should I be considering others in the price range? Stampede? T3?

motor: will never race, more concerned w/ run time than speed. Trinity P2K? Others?

Radio: Magnum JR AM or comparable airtronics?

ESC: should I not buy it w/ the radio?

The first question, is what do you plan to do with it? Is it just running around the yard for fun, or are you considering racing? Big difference in gear.

For fun:
I think the E-Maxx will likely be the cream of the crop for 4x4. You don't hear much about the RS4-MT because T-Maxx takes much of the press, and racing trucks are more prevelant. The T-3 is a great truck, but more race oriented. For straight fun stuff, I'd probably go with the E-Maxx when it's out.

For a motor, a P2K or a Speed Gems2 if you want mod, are both good choices.

Radio...if you're not racing, and won't have to deal with florescent lights at indoor tracks, an AM radio should be fine. Personally, I'd probably (and did) go for the Magnum Jr. FM. It's more glitch-free, and not all that much more expensive.

ESC....fun runners are more inclined to want reverse. Even when I run for fun, I sorta set up a course, so I work to keep from getting in a position to need reverse. Anyway, the LRP Super Sport, or Novak Fusion are nice F/B ESC's that are reasonably priced, and can handle mod motors to around the 12-14T range if you want.

Keep in mind, for the radio and ESC, these things can last long after you wear out that first car. So spending a little extra here (and on the charger) can really be worth it in the long run.

Thanks justin. as I mentioned I will NOT be racing. And I forgot to mention I do want reverse.

what about the Futaba ESC available w/ the magnum jr?

Yeah, I caught the not racing part about half way through my post....sorry http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't know enough about the Futaba ESC to comment on it. The only think I would personally recommend is that you get an ESC that can handle down to about 14-15T mod motors. Even if you don't want one now....it may save you buying a second ESC if you want a mod motor in the future. But if you really need to save the bucks, the Futaba package would probably be the cheapest way to go.

The Clodbuster or Juggernaut 2 are a couple other popular monster trucks. These are more "monster" oriented than the RS4-MT, which is sort of half-monster/half-race.

You seem to want electric. I have the rustler and it is a great tough truck. I myself was thinking about getting the Rs 4 MT. For ESC the tekin rebel www.tekin.com (http://www.tekin.com) is good and can handle 10 turns (up to 160 amps). It has low resistance and can handle 10 cells.

I also have a rustler and i think it is a great tough truck. I personally like Novak esc's. the Rooster is a reversible esc that can handle down to 15 turns i thinnk, the reactor is the next step up for reversibles with a 12 turn limit i think, and the super rooster is the best one so far (for reverible) without a turn limit (unless you use dual motors. then i think it is 15turns or sumthin.)
I would also sugest getting ball bearings for whatever you get. They make stuff i'd say about twice as fast.

Thats all from me..
