1.Where is the best spot to mount the rudder on the transome of a hydro?
2.On the left or right of the prop?
3.How far out sholud it be from the tansome?
4.Does it matter if the rudder is in front of or behind the prop?

Type of Hydro, outrigger or scale like the Bud? Scale-like to the left of the prop, Outriggers can sometimes run them on either side but generally on the right. On the scales, enough to the left to where the prop won't hit it or halfway between the strut and left side. you'll find that the rudder will stick out farhter than the strut if you have a scale-like hull as most are made for sub-surface drives.
That kind of covers it but there should be more responses and I know that someone will ask this question so here it is. What hull are you setting up?

It is the 1/12 bud. I also have a llumar hull with no running gear or motor and a 1/16 electric hydro I need to build. I am experimenting with the bud before I move on to the other two. The bud is my first nitro and hydro.

The newer Bud's and the Llumar have the rudder on the left, the place where it should be.

What is the advantage of having it on the left?

It balances out the boat because of the turn fin. What the left rear of the boats does affects the right front, i.e., cross balance.
