The a-tech and mini giant are the same truck, but venom stopped stocking the mini giant. Anyway the lhs by me has a brushless one and it has never broken. I would personally recommend the Team Associated rc18mt due to the after market support and it being a really nice truck and having really good parts suppport, but the a-tech/mini giant is a good second choice.

the best mini truck would be hte mini t by team losi. It has a full line of upgradeable parts and its based on a larger scale truck... the xxxt or sumthing i just picked mine up and it is amzing for carpet and jumps great on dirt... if u get a 7.2 volt battery pack with 6 cells 4 about 30 bucks u can pull wheelies and do great doughnuts... the losi mini t is the best way 2 go... u can buy one online for about 120 - 150 $ depending on where u buy it

also if u have a 7 year old the losi could be great 4 him if u put a rpm foam bumper on it

right - i'd go Mini-T or Associated RC18T. I've had good experience with both, but I prefer the RC18T due to it's 4WD ease of handling.

I'd go TLT-1 either Rockbuster or Max Climber better in taller grass for sure. The stadium type trucks may give you some problems with taller grass. YOu could go 18MT but won't have the power in the grass.
Just my 2 cents

all of this is good info but I am looking for the smaller trucks 1/28 or 1/20 scale.
the 18mt is 1/18 scale i think.
I like the mini-z monster 1/28 or the mini giant 1/20 scale.

the smaller the trucks get the harder they are 2 use in grass... no truck that isnt 1/10 or above will run that good in grass.. my RC18T doesnt go 2 well in grass and neither does my mini t.. they r made for road/dirt

I have problems with my 1/10 Evader in the grass, theres a pretty good chance you will too. I'd recomend a Duratrak Mini Quake (I think thats what its called) Or a Hot Bodies Minizilla. Those would do much better in the grass than anything 1/28.

at that size Rick, don't expect it to do too well in even moderately bumpy terrain. Out of the choices you stated, the Venom mini is the best choice/potential. But, I'd stongly suggest that if you want to spend the money on that, put a little more into it, and do the RC18T like everyone has been suggesting. At $154 it's complete with battery and charger, plus the performance will be gobbs better then your choices. As for your son, you'll be able to decrease the trim on the throttle to make it slower as it will be fast out of the box. Not to mention replaceable parts galore. Take the time, and then you could both get one and race each other.
If you don't, be careful not all the 1/20th and 1/28th are 4wd!!

well, as you get smaller scale, it becomes slower, less adjustable, and less able to run wherever. However, id get the Iwaver if you *really* want that small of a scale. No way in hell am i ever buying a mini-z. they are very overpriced, slow, and the monster is just a high cg. You'd be better off with an 18th scale, but thats just my opinion. You can make 1/18's crazy fast.
