Here is my story:

A couple weeks ago i was babysitting my lil cuz's (12yrs. and 10yrs. old) and we had to go pick some stuff up for there mom and i needed to pick something up for my car (elec. rustler) so we stopped and got that and i brought them back to my house to make sure the part was the right one. and then they seen my car and they r like cool can we drive it and i said i will bring it when i watch u guys tomorrow. so the next day a brought it along and we drove it most of the day and that night they both pitched in money and went and bought a elec. evader st. even tho the evader is probably a better truck than the rustler, my rustler is still more fun in my opionin seeing i just beat the heck out of it and have only bent one shock shaft since i got it 5 months ago.

I showed my friend an issue of RCCA. then i showed her letters that people sent into rcca about how racing r/c cars beifits their skills, like responsibility, and other stuff like that. two hours later we were in his van on the way to a hobby shop to pick up a brand new HPI micro.

I let one of my cousins take over ownership/responsibility on a tmaxx that I had.
Then he lost interest and his brother took it over.
I have also gotten 2 of my friends into RC by letting them drive and bash with me.

I gave one to my brother for his birthday just becuase we always thought they were cool, but would probably never buy one for ourselves. After that, another brother and his friends ended up buying one. I then had no choice but to buy one myself. Now, we all own several cars each. So in my case, getting someone else in the hobby is what got me into it.

I became friends with this guy and he had a t-maxx and I was like what is that he said a gas powered truck and I was like sounds cool...and I said how fast is it..He said it will hit 35 to 40 and then...he showed me...and then he broke the truck that day..and next thing I know I am goin to buy parts for it..so I could watch it more....so I bought parts then I have just been buying r/cs and everything now..so he got me in the hobby...so I had to share it..but I know its vice versa of the title.."How did you get someone in the hobby"

Lilbons, excellent suggestion for a thread. Heck of a lot better than "what rude responses do you give people who ask you about your RC?"

I bought a used GT from someone on the boards, added some stuff and dropped a new engine in it. During break-in, my neighbor and his two boys came over to watch. The boys were 8 and 6 and would always crowd around my truck....so much so that my wife started calling them my pit crew. They were so enthralled with my truck that their father bought them a couple of radio shack RC's. So, when I'd bring out the GT to run in the cul-de-sac, they'd run and get their trucks. I'd drive real slow right behind them to keep them thinking they were running really fast. After a couple of weeks of doing this, their father comes home with a TC3 he bought used at the lhs. He dropped a couple o' hundred on the setup and surprised the rest of us. He'd run his in the street pretty often, and eventually went on to race at our lhs. He moved out of this area and down to SC. He's still hooked on the hobby and recently picked up a T4.

I've gotten about four people into the hobby. The first guy is an old buddy on mine, I ran into him outside my hobby shop and told him to come inside with me so I can pick up my parts that I ordered and then we'll go shoot the shizz. Well, while we were in there he's asking all the infamous questions like, how fast, how much yada yada yada. To make a long story short he walked out with an rc10gt. A similar story with a different peoson, walked out with an lst. Here's another story that is pretty good, I had a BBQ recently and invited an old freind that I haven't seen in a while as well as some bash buddies. So after we eat we all pull out out mini's and start jumping around my backyard. So my buddy takes my rc18 off of a few jumps and he's totaly hooked now. He has an rc18, and an ultra comp now. And the last one is of this guy and his son, they were at a park that we were bashing at and he's standing there with his son watching us run out MT's. So he asks. "how much and how fast bla bla bla" so I tell him..then he asks "are you guys here everyweekend?" I'm like yup..just about...so a few weeks go by and all of a sudden this guy shows up with his son and a T-maxx. It was pretty sweet. I have so many bash buddies now.

i've brought many peoples in the hobby by goofing with my cars on parking lots doing speed passes and crazy jumps and i turned few away from the hobby by telling the price of my babies :D.

how i got i the hobby is not that simple however.i always liked rc(anything rc that is) and had a few toy cars.one day my dad(who was in control lined planes) showed my an rc aircraft magazine and i started to look around the net (still wasn't aware of rc cars).got a few gliders but it just wasn't me.i was a car junkie so looked for cars on the net and found a kyosho ultima rb type r on a site.continued my search and i fell face to face with towerhobbies.that's the beginning of my rc ep carreer

later on (3 years later) i met a guy who was into nitro and started nitro racing

I gave my sisiter's 14yr old son a Mini-Quake and 2 upgraded batts for his 14th birthday about 5 months ago. Now he's working mowing yards, taking out trash, anything somebody will pay him for to buy another rc. His Dad is showing signs of getting into it too, lol!

Usually it starts from me messing around with ny RC then they ask to run it. They are hooked from that point on.

I play hockey and my parents own an ice rink and it was brand new so there were loads of dirt everywhere, so after practice i took my nitro rustler out and started jumping and stuff, and then, the next practice, 4 of us had them and so on. Now theres 8 of us that race nitro stadiums all the time, great stuff.

i still have to find someone to get into this hobby. Everytime someone gets interested and checked how much it cost me, their enthusiasm dies down quickly.

Everyone has awesome stories on how they have brought more and more people into the hobby. Here are a few of mine. (including mine) I have been in the Car audio industry for almost 20 years, and everything I did was part of it, it work in the business but it was also my hobby. Well about 5 years ago I finally just got a burnt out on the whole thing, and decided I needed something new. ( I had played with a tamyia frog when I was like 8-9) I walked into the LHS to pick up some CA for work, and spent two hours talking with the guys in the car dept. and walked out with a t-maxx. found out that afternoon that two of my friends had them and from there I was going nuts on this thing. in 3 months I had spent more than 3 grand on hops ups and other stuff for my truck. Then one of our customers at the store saw my truck and he and I started talking about r/c one day when I had my truck at work, then next thing I know I am going to the local on road track three weeks in a row to watch and pit for him during the races, and poof I bought my first nitro touring car. and have been seriously hooked since then and have owned a number of different cars since then. over the years in the shop my installers we always in awe of our cars and trucks, always wanting to own but never having the money to buy. The owner of one of the LHS's was in need of some work on his truck, with the amount of work needed I was able to negotiate a deal between him and the installers to trade the work for 3 t-maxxes and all the gear they need to be up and running that day. from there I got both of my brother in laws into the hobby, and my best friend who bought a NTC3 from another friend of mine, and it sat in his garage for a year never drove it. Then he came into town to visit me and I took him to the track. he left the ntc3 with me to sell and he bought a new nitro car( that I built and set up for him) when I moved to Denver a month and a half ago I brought the car with me all ready to go, including some of the best support gear. He is the proud and still giddy owner of a Team Magic G4 E-class, M8 w/ spektrum, TM alph starter box, reedy pro charger, JR servos, and more, then one weekend I took him to the local off road track to watch the 1/8 scale buggies run. that evening he dropped a grand on a mugen buggy set up from e-bay. His son is now running a t-maxx 2.5 that I was given 4 days before I moved (as a broken pile of junk that cost me 35.00 to fix and it runs perfectly) his neighbor and kids are now in the market for their own cars and trucks to run.

This hobby is infectious to everyone it seems to come into contact with. I am so glad I found it and am a part of it.

I don't know if this counts, but I was out in my yard driving my T-Maxx and my neighbor was out running around with my duaghter. A couple days later I'm walkin in and he comes up to me all excited becuase his mom bought him a 'remote control car'. Of course he claims it's wicked fast and better than mine, but what the heck, he's only like four years old, and I know it's one of those cheapie RS cars...no big.

So last night I'm out banging on the Maxx again and the kids are runnin around. So I ask him where his 'remote control car' is and he tells me the battery is dead and he doesn't have a charger. So I tell him to grab the car and the battery and bring it to me. So he drags out his car and the battery looks like a flat NiCD 700Mah battery. So I throw it on my charger for ten minutes and next thing you know he's hauling around the driveway...pretty cool.

17 years ago I showed my brothers my new (at that time) Futaba FX10 off-roader. They watched me drive it then asked to drive it themsevles. Me being the nice youngest member let them drive it. Two weeks later they both had a Traxxas Cat RTR. My brothers later showed their boys the hobby. Then when my daughters were old enough I got them all HPI Dashes. The local race track started a class just for them. They tell their friends and take pics in to school and have gotten a few of their friends into it now. But I still try and show and tell everyone I meet about this great hobby.

For anyone who wants to get someone into this hobby, when a person asks about how much. My response is" Well what I have costs more then what it takes to enter the hobby." Then I let them know you can get into the hobby for under a $150.00 with everything to get started, depending on what you want. Then in my case I let them know my LHS has layaway also. That sells them almost everytime. So check with your hobby shop to see if they ofer layaway options. And hobby shop owners if you don't, our LHS does more business with new customers that way then people buying vehicles straight out. Good luck and go get them here!

I didn't bring anybody into the hobby I don't think. But, I do know how i got brought into the hobby. My neighbor used to drive and I would film him driving. Well one day he let me drive and I was like holy cow man this thing is cool. So then I started looking around on here and bought my first truck. I have been pleased with it so far. I agree with nomad^^^ also.

i got in to the hobby when my parents got me a cheap rc from toys r us and i kept breaking it. well i got mad b/c i couldn't buy new parts and i had to fix them with tape or something so i went to the hobby shop and they couldn't get parts that would work and i saw a traxxas rustler there and i was like that isn't that much money. and a couple weeks later i got one and i love it.
