I just bought a 9 Teen Turn Trinity Cobalt motor and a Novak XRS. Now for whatever reason it only the Cobalt only runs about 1/3 of the speed it is suposed to, but when I hit reverse it is full speed. I'm fairly sure the XRS is up to the job. I hooked up one of my tuned C2's and they still have the same great speed, and in equal proportions foward/reverse. This is where I need the advice. Is there something wrong with the ciruitry of th Cobalt or is the XRS not up to par? All help welcome, because I have not fooled with a speed control in over 3 years ( I was running a Cyclone 2).
Thanks

does it work with other motors correctly, is it the speed control or motor? i can't quite tell which one you are talking about. anyway make sure your polarity on the wiring is correct for both motor & speed control then check the radio trims,if that doesn't work see if it is the motor or esc & go from there

Make sure the motor is wired correctly and the endbell isn't on backwards. Then get your instruction manual and reset the speed control. It sounds like your motor is wired backwards and/or your speed control is incorrectly programmed.

I thought the motor was hooked up backwards but it was not, the C2's work perfectly fine. The Cobalt 19 runs 1/3 of the speed it should forward and full speed in reverse. And the reason when I know the cobalt is wired the right was is that the blue led is on in both foward/reverse. I hooked it up backwards and the motor works full speed forward and 1/3 of the speed backwards, but the blue led is not on.

I agree with gizmoguy, it definitely sounds like a wireing issue. It may also be caused by the timing of the motor. Look at the attached picture for reference.

i may be reaching here but try reversing you servo control on your transmitter for the throttle there should be a switch on it or if its digital it will be on the menu somewhere (it is a different brand of esc)good luck

After all that trouble the problem was the endbell reversed. That said this motor is wicked fast  and is working great! Thanks for the help guess that's what I needed after not really being involved with r/c for about 4 months.
Thanks

Ok I have a question then. Should the heatsinks on the Cobalt face the timing label or the blank side? I switched the endbell to where the heatsinks face the label. Is this wrong? Please help.....I don't feel like messing up an expensive motor.
Thanks

Not to go off topic or anything, but how do you like the 9Teen motor? Have you used any other 19 turn motors that you could compair it to? Right now I am running a Chameleon 2 Pro that I have had for some time. It is getting to the point where I will either have to buy a new armature or a new motor because the comm is getting to the point where it should not be cut any more.
Thank You,

I have also been running the C2's for quite a bit of time for almost 3 years now, but within the last 3 months I have been runninng the Trinity XXX LeMans Brushes and they run great and have long life and the the same speed as before in the C2's. In the Cobalt 19 I have noticed an incredible change (after getting all the bugs worked out) more speed and more torque both high and low end. I'd reccomend Cobalt 19 highly, the heat sinks do a really good job of keeping the motor very cool. I ran my battery packs today each for a run at a time,5 minutes, and 8 packs. Instead of my motors temping around 125-135, it was around 105-110 an awesome change not to mention what looked like no ware on the comm. Then again running the C2's with LeMans brushes like Mike Dumas did to win the 2005 Carpet Nats will work fairly well also.
