I'm from the east coast so it's hard to get the dirt to pack in smooth. Also grass roots are deep so I watered down where I was going to make my track and to a weed-eater with a long tip and cut the top leyer of grass all the way down to the roots. As for jumps I just to fire wood and stacked it up then put dirt over it then watered it. This worked pretty good but take some mud and pack it between the logs so they dont slip.
If you need anymore help just tell me, Im not the best track maker but all my tracks turn out pretty good .

On some areas I used a rototiller & then scraped with the rear blade on my garden tractor to get the debris to one edge. The used a loader to scoop & haul the debris away. Other areas I used a sodcutter. The sodcutter is best because it removes a consistant amount of material & leaves the surface fairly hard. My track is a backyard affair, so for maintenance convienence I used grass infields rather than smaller area with barriers to define the race course. Check this link, the pic isn't the best but you will get the idea.
