I don't think it will be a problem. Are you putting it in your checked bags or your carry-on? I would suggest carry-on if you can fit it all in a carry-on bag. I'm sure they will probably want to open up your bag; just tell them what it is and I don't think it will be a problem. I fly twice a week for work, but I've never taken RC stuff with me.

You could also contact them and ask:

If you have questions about airport security, please call the TSA Contact Center toll-free at
1-866-289-9673 during the following hours of operation (all times are Eastern Standard Time):

· Monday thru Friday 8am - 10pm
· Saturday, Sunday, Holidays 10am - 6pm

I took my minizilla, batt packs and radio with me back to japan and didnt have a problem in any of the 3 airports. My laptop was more of an issue with security. Oh, and i took it in my carry on.

Wow. I'd err on the side of caution on this one. Ship it if you can, because on the chance that you get a scared screener, you have to forfeit the equipment. Are you willing to take that risk?

When I look around, most people don't understand RC, and I could see that turning into fear in an airport. What are all those wires, why do you have a radio that can control remote devices blah blah blah. Its your call man, but shoot I'd sure look into it. I'd think packing it well and checking under the plane should be no problem, but carry on seems like its asking for trouble.

my experience: airport security always open my "check-in" luggage everytime it goes through their xray equipment. they always check the stick pack battery i have with my txt-1. its kinda hassle really. to take everything out and putting everything back in.

just in case. my advice is put all your batteries in the most accessible spot.

the more wires you have the more it interferes with the xrays. I carry a laptop with AC charger, cell phone charger, headphones, PSP charger, PSP USB cable, etc, etc. As I said above I fly twice a week for my job (Mon and Th). They almost always used to look in my bag when I had it all in my carry-on. They said they can't get a clear picture of what's in there with all the wires. So, I put as much in my checked bag as possible now.

I would put all the batteries and charger in the checked bag and the Tx and mini-t in the carry-on. I've seen bags thrown around like rag dolls on the tarmac, some break and fall apart. I've seen the entire contents of bags spilled all over the tarmace when it's raining and grubby !ss hands picking it up and shoving it in any way it will fit. <-- Doesn't bode well with RC

If you check your luggage, try to pack your RC stuff in a hard bag of some sort. Like one of those popular rectangular bags with wheels and a handle to pull it. My friend has come out here with his RC10GT before. He packed it and the Tx, etc. in one of those hard-ish suitcases and packed newspaper all around it. Everything was fine.

I came through with an rc heli as a carry on and they didn't care. Serusly (sp?). They searched my bag by mistake, even with the radio in it.

what i would do it leave it on the carry on, and then when you go through the screener, just take everything out and put it on one of those trays like you do with the laptops, this way its out in the open and they know you aren't trying to pack something funny.

a buddy of mine when he travels always brings 2 large plastic containers with him all for RC, and to my knowledge I dont think it has been an issue, if you pack real heavy though I think there is like a 50lb weight limit now, anything higher and you have to start paying more for your ticket.

I know for the snowbirds alot of guys will just ship their R/C equipment via fedex or ups and have it waiting their at the hotel for them.
big gamble but it beats having to lug all that around with ya if you are flying.

Also take a magazine with you in the carry on so that you can show them the mini-t and radio and things in the magazine.

Shouldn't have a problem then.

with the latest bombings. airposrt security will be tight again. expect to be scrutinized with your r/c equipment if ever.

I asked someone at that works security at the local airport and they said that they would most likely make you take it out just to look at it but dont worry about taking it because thats there whole job. He dont mind at all seeing stuff like that come through because it beats bag after bag of clothes. It is a boring job.

I don't know if someone suggested this yet, but bring the instruction manual(s).
