Just got my T3 in last week. I'm thinking about putting in a new motor. Some friends and I put out cones in a oval shape and race on a very smooth asphalt parking lot. I'd appreciate any electric motor suggestions and gear setups.
Thanks. :)

Depending on which batteries you have, a high turn motor would be a good choice. Sorry cant help you with the gearing though.

Right now I'm using my friends batteries. They're 2000's,but I'm not sure exactly which brand. While I'm asking newbie questions. What would be some decent batteries to pick up? They don't have to be race batteries, but I also don't want weak one's either.
Thanks.

I would try a P2K, and get 2000 batteries. Get some stick packs, These can be had for CHEAP(30-40 bucks) And with a stock motor, will go on one charge for 10-15 minutes.

If you are not going to be doing any official racing (only with friends), I would get the 19 turn Trinity Speed Gems motor. Or a similar budget mod from another company.
These 19 turn motors are slightly faster than a stock motor, last quite a bit longer, and get about the same run time. PLUS, they are about the same price, if not LESS (I usually see them for less).
I am not sure what the big "stock motor" attraction is. They don't have bearings, they are running on the ragged edge for max power, and they cost more than a good budget mod.
As far as gearing, assuming you get the 19 turn budget mod, I would start at around 20 teeth. That may be a little small, but you will get killer run time and low heat.
The 19 turn will easily go up to 24 teeth on your truck though. They have gobs of torque due to the high turn count.

the p2k pro is "broken in" by trinity and dyno tested before going into the box to ensure maximum performance.
the p2k is not, it is expected for you to do all of the above... :)

What gearing would you recommend on a asphalt oval?
Thanks for all the help. :D

The Speed Gems are okay, but I would either get a Chameleon, Ex Spec, Fantom or a P2K. You can always change the bushings out for bearings if you need to. I put bearings in my Ex Spec and am using it to run in modified buggy and I can keep up with the 15-19 turn mods pretty easily. It's all in the gearing :)

Ex Spec is 21 turn right ?
12 degrees of timing, I believe.
I did a similar thing with an Ex Spec motor, except I put my arm in a Reedy Sonic can. Very nice setup. 20 minute runs too, or almost.

The difference between the P2K and Pro is the Pro comes with silver brushes (4499's?) and the standard has hard copper.

I have the above Team orion motor (a 17x3) and can attest to it's quality. It runs very fast.[/LIST]
