Hey guys. I finally convinced my parents to let me build a track in the woods. There are lots of trees though, and i have to cut them down. I plan on making a decent track with lots of turns and a couple of jumps too. What size(i.e. 40x50 ft or something) do you think i should make it. I dont want to have to cut down tons of trees, so what size do you think it would need to be at a minimum??? It doesn't have to be quite as big as jeep's track. Also, jeep, do you have any tips on making a track(i don't want to be half way done and realize that i made a critical mistake!!!) THANKS ALOT GUYS!!!

Dude !
It is all what YOU want.
Generally speaking, the bigger the better. Let's just assume you want 4 lanes of width. And assume you want your straight away to be at least 75 feet (about right, maybe a tad short).
At 8 feet per lane this equates to 32' x 75'.
That is a pretty small track. Go up to 10 foot lanes and have 5 of them. Now you are 75' x 50'. Getting better.
Yep, 50' x 75' would be about the smallest I would make. 100' x 75' would be killer.
Remember that the bigger your track gets, the taller you will need to stand to see it properly. This is something most folks don't consider. We are prolly going to end up making ours taller.
Does this help ?

I agree with Jeep..... Our first go was at about 70x50ish and we found it was fun, but a bit tight here and there and wound up expanding three weeks later to 105x70 which lends itself to even 1/8 scales. Ours began as woods as well and we found cutting the trees down was not the way to go... The roots of the few trees we only cut down presented more work and hassle down the road. The ones we simply ripped out with the bobcat were gone and we were free and clear. Good luck with the track!
And remember... Any track you spend the time to make and make your own is better than no track at all. We spend almost as much time tweaking the track as we do bashin with the cars!

Try and get some CAD software or some home builders software, that way you can spend vigours hours going threw blueprints before wasting your time outside too.
