Does anybody know of any chemical that will remove the anodizing from associated turnbuckles? Im not sure, but I think it might be impossible to chemically deanodize titanium because the color doesnt come from dyes, like in aluminum. I tried drano crystals and oven cleaner, and neither of them worked, I let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes with both substances.

i'd say you're stuck with the blue. i've never heard of anyone taking the colour out of ti.

Let the turnbuckles sit in caustic soda (mixed with warm water) for a while :)
That takes the color out of them. I did that on my HPI Pro4 parts, and it worked well. The alu. parts took some damage when they were left too long, but the turnbuckles were troublefree.

Ez-Off oven cleaner the heavy duty will take anodizing off. we use it on car aluminum car part to take off the anodizing before we send them off to powder coating. you might have to coat it a couple of times. and just rinse with water. Just don't get it on you bare hand! use some Rubber gloves. Like the yellow ones your mom used to use to clean the kitchen.. "Not making a joke" you know we have all seen our mom's in those things! LoL but they work the best and there cheap and you can throw them away when your done! if you have and questions feel free to E-Mail me. Shannon

He already tried the drano crystals. I have talked to the trilordy guys and rob the one who wrote that article said that if it works it will only take about 30 seconds. He tryed for 10-15 minutes so i don't think that is the answer.

I tried a store brand oven cleaner, but it was the full strength version, not the fume free. I think if oven cleaner were to work at all I would have noticed atleast a slight difference, and I didn't. The trilordy article said that bothe draino and oven cleaner use the same chemical, so I guess atleast that chemical doesnt work. It seems most of you are talking about aluminum, and these methods do work for that.

Ok, I don't know what there using for anodizing on RC stuff but it must be different then the stuff they use on car part. Because all we do is speay the stuff on and let it sit for 5 to 10 min and keep putting it on till the anodizing starts running off. Then its time for a long rinse with water. So you guys got me.... Sorry for no help... :) Shannon

Well, caustic soda works for ti. too.
What exactly is caustic soda? Where can I find it and how dangerous is it? What is it usually used for?

Caustic soda is still sodium hydroxide, so I dont think it will work if draino and oven cleaner don't work, they all use the same chemical.

You can find it in grocery stores next to dish cleaners etc. It`s used for paint removal. It contains 90-100% "Natriumhydroksid" according to the bottle..

Here is a close-up on the turnbuckles on my pro4:

Hope it works out :)

supposedly "Greased Lightning" works the best

Greased lightning does a really good job on aluminum, but so does oven cleaner. Anyway it is worth a try it just takes longer let it sit for about an hour then see.

If all else fails you can pull out the dremal with a polishing bit and some polishing cream. I did that with my sons RC10GT turnbuckles. its a pain and they get hot fast but boy do they shine when your done.

For aluminum - eazy off oven cleaner - soak for about 15 minutes then polish the remainder.

For Titanium - which most Associated blue turnbuckles are, Easy off will not work. What I did was put a polishing wheel on my Dremel tool with some Mothers polish and it took it off. Yeah its a little bit of work but they shine like no other.
