I just picked up a Iwata HP-A and it works great with the Createx Transparent paints, but the opaque and pearl paints just clog it up. I have tried thinning the paints(way to much even) and still it spits and splats. Does anyone have one of these and use Createx? It has a .2 mm fluid nozzle. if I change it to the .3 mm nozzle will it work for me or should I just get a different brush?? I like the fine lines I get with it using the tansparent paints but still will need to use the other paints.

Thanks

Try the .3 mm nozzle first before you try to buy a new brush. Some pigments spray nice and others don't. I can get metallic green to spray nice but metallic blue clogs....it's pigment dependent. You can still get fine lines with the .3mm tip.

thanks piggy
so I should be able to spray if I get the .3mm nozzle. is there any place besides dixie art that has cheaper shipping. or, any recommendations as to other things I should order to reach my $45 so i can get the free shipping. is the bondall and catylist worth getting or is mixing with water just as good.(as far as the paint sticking to lexan.

you may want to try thinning with windex instead of water to thin the createx.
If I remember correctly the windex evaporates faster then straight water and it also dosn't dillute the pigment in the paint. not exactly clear on the specifics but I've tried it and it does work very well. This tip was posted by cahrlie barnes so I know it's worth trying, and in my own limited experiance it works very well.

as for the .3mm nozzele thats what my HP-C came with and i've had no problems with createx although the pearls are quite thick straight from the bottle so I always thin them down, pearl blue has alwys been my biggest problem.

just my experience please don't jump on me for it.

i have an iwata hp-cs with the stock .35mm nozzle and needle spraying faskolor. unless the regular paints are thinned considerably they don't like to spray well while trying to do detail work. metallics will only spray at full trigger but still not well. i plan to get the .5 nozzle and needle to overcome the problem.

I had an HP-B(which I sold a while back), similiar guts to the A, does not spray faskolor right. Yep the nozzle is too small. You might have luck with pactra slightly thinned down. It wasn't meant for hobby use; although it does do a good job spraying oil based enamels for styrene plastic models.

My main brush for a while has been the HP-CS (like the guy above). I have the bigger nozzle for it (can't remember the size, but it's the regular eclipse nozzle; .45 or .5?). Anyhow metallics spray alright even with the tip it came with. I just don't like the relative narrow spray width in general for trying to covering large spots. Does wonders for flames, detail, etc. It's a great pieces, but you definately want a 15dollar cheapie sprayer along side to make life easier.

But back to the HP-A, larger head/nozzle, needle, etc assembly like the one on the HP-C (.3) will help. If you had other intended uses for the HP-A, get a different brush for bodies. If you bought it strictly for bodies, then get the spare parts so you don't waste an airbrush.
