Does anyone own or seen these trucks in action.

I own the Toyota. It's a great basher. It won't break any records on the track, though.

I've got the F-150. I widened it and put 2.2" Masher tires on it. I've got a friend who went the other direction. He widened his, but set it up for speed instead. We both think they're great, and I've never broken a thing.

How available are hop ups?

Hopefully I got this photo posting thing figured out - this is my first try.

There are lots of hop ups - the truck is basically the TA02. We think it's got pretty good potential, but it all depends on what you want. I want to climb hills and basically bash around. With the Mashers and the Magnetic Mayhem motor, the truck will climb a vertical face (like a curb), until the body hangs up. The first picture shows the wider control arms, etc. The smaller tire is one of the stock tires. The second picture is after a little mud bogging. If the photos don't work, I can e-mail them to you or tell you where the album is.

It's too bad you changed...I LOVE the stock tires and wheels. They're a huge part of the appeal to me.

What excactly did you do to modify it? (nice)

Hey, those big tires look cool. Here's a picture of my Prerunner with original tires. By the way, this body has been discontinued by Tamiya for several years now. I wonder why? The only modification this thing has is bearings and updated electronics.

The way the truck looks stock is the reason I bought it. I think it looks really good.

But a friend bought a Stampede, so I had to show that the little Tamiya could perform well too. It started little - first an esc for more control and less maintenance. Then he bought the Stampede, so I picked up a new motor to try to keep up. A low budget way to widen the TA02 trucks is to use Stampede front wheels. They're thicker than stock, so I used the drill press to remove enough material to allow bolting on the wheels. Someone posted somewhere else that TG10 Long Wheel Axles will work, and you shouldn't have to trim the wheels then.

The new wheels allowed me to run Dirt Paw tires, which were awesome. I had to raise the body to use those tires, so I made body mounts with aluminum tubing. I also snowproofed it with a pop bottle and window screen. After the mud in the picture I posted, the electronics were clean and dry.

For the next step, I got some used Masher tires. I could put them on the back, but they rubbed on the front, so I got the Blazing Star control arms and related parts.
The Magnetic Mayhem motor gave the torque to use those big tires, and a set of bearings really helped.

Thats funny. The prerunner was in the 2000 Tamiya catalog.

Really? I bought mine back in '93. I thought Tamiya stopped making the Toyota version. I know for a fact they still make the Ford and the Chevy.

If you look at the R/C Web Directory on Tower Hobbies' web page, you'll find car/truck oriented sites, and a couple list stock speeds of various kits. The F-150 is listed as 17 mph.

Sorry, can't help you with race legal questions.

I forgot to mention a couple things. I made tire chains for snow traction, and I made shock boots with balloons, to help keep out the grime. The kit came with a wider bumper that I was able to use once I widened the truck.

Hi, I have the Chevy version of this truck, im trying to widen the stance of it, but im not sure what the best way is to do it.Can anyone tell me where I can find parts to widen the truck. also anyone know what else i might need to do to beef this thing up for a 19 turn motor? I'm trying to get it to hang with my friends hpi rs4mt.

To widen it, I used the Blazing Star control arms and dogbones. The "D" parts (part # 0005378, I think) gives you suspension arms and camber links. The dogbones should be part #9805370. You'll need 2 sets of these parts. You'll also need turnbuckles for the steering. I guess the metal "D" parts bag has the links, but I just used some Traxxas ones - I can find the length if you need. I'll get some nice blue titanium ones later.

You won't need to do anything for a 19 turn motor. My Speed Gems 2 works great, but that depends on the size of your tires. I don't know how fast the rs4mt is, but from what I hear, the 19 turn may not be enough to keep up. For reference, it helped me beat a friend's Stampede. You can get good run time and speed with a 17 turn. Bearings made a huge difference for me, and I understand the hard prop shaft helps take some slop out of the drivetrain. To get the parts, the cheapest I've seen is straight from Tamiya, at 800-826-4922. For more speed, they also sell different spur gears. My cost for widening was $20-$30.

Yup, 5 times. Just 'cause I was bored. Actually, everytime I hit submit, the thing said "connection reset by peer" like it hadn't gone through. Sorry for the mess.
