Hydro questions

I have some questions pertaining to hydros in general:
1.Where is the best location for a water pickup on the transom?
2.How far should the pickup extend into the water?
3.Does a rudder with a built in pickup work better than a stand alone pickup?
4.Does a tapered prop nut have any advantage over a standard nut?

4. No, and they tend to fall off more.

4 Use Blue Locktite and a standard prop nut

A small piece of large fuel tubing works between the prop and nut also as a lock washer and shock absorber. I have yet to lose a prop or nut yet this way.
