I just bought a M03 Mini cooper , I need to know what I can do to make the 540mabuchi ( silver can ) motor the best it can be . I don't know how much run time is already on it , but was wondering what can be done to make it perform and last the longest . Thanks.

Throw it in the garbage and buy a 27 turn stock motor. You won't regret it. A good one is like 30 bucks.

Throwing away is not always good idea. At a track near me the Cooper class runs the silver motors only. The class is run mostly box stock. If I remember correctly bearings and non-Tamiya wheels/tires are the only mods allowed. Both M03 and M03L run together.

30 minutes break in (4 volts) under water should make your mabuchi spin little bit faster. Don't for forget to motor spray and lubricate the bushing afterwards.
Direct motor connection to ESC if allowed.
Good luck with your new mini cooper.
