No one will answer this so I'll give it a try.
I don't worry about the shaft so much but one way to look at it is to put the cones on the shaft (naked minus the prop) and see which way it rolls. If there's a heavy side, then rotate one of the cones a little & balance again. Should be very close unless the shaft is just outright warped. Reason I say do it that way, is when I'm doing a prop, place the cones on & balance. One blade might be heavy... till you rotate the cones and it allows it to seat a little different or so.
The TF balancer is good, but you don't just toss a prop on there & say that this blade is heavy & start to work. Always question it and rotate around. Soon you'll be a prop guru:D

I use the Top Flight balancer and don't bother balancing the shaft. When I first got the balancer, I rolled the shaft on a glass plate to ensure it was straight and left it at that. I balance all of my metal props, but I try not to be overly obsessive about. My personal opinion is that I just don't want an out of whack prop wearing out my drivetrain or robbing me of speed. Again in my opinion, I think spending hours and hours to perfectly balance a prop in every way possible is a waste since I haven't balanced my entire drivetrain. I believe it would be impossible for me to remove any and all vibrations from my boat; I just don't want a grossly out of balance prop on my boat. I hope this makes sense and helps.

I get a weird vibe on my Ms LLumar every once in awhile. I finally caught this noise/vibe when I pulled it from the water the other day. I watched the flexshaft kind of spin in an out of true way causing the noise and vibe throughout the hull. It comes and goes though. I guess it just needs that perfect frequency to get it out of shape, then pops back in again. It seem to run just fine though. I have an Octure y535 on it. Should I buy a new sharpened and balanced prop, and see if it goes away? Thanks, and sorry for steeling your thread countryrook.
