View Full Version : Using Miss Bud parts in a mono... possible?

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I posted a similar idea to this on another site so if you read both, sorry for the dupe. :o
I've got a 1/12th Miss Bud all torn down and I'm considering trying to use most or all of the parts in a scratchbuilt hull, most likely a mono. Think it would be possible? I looked at .21 sized mono's before I got into flying planes and now I still want one but don't have a lot of bucks to spend.
Would it be possible to build a hull such as the "Wild Thing" and put the engine and pipe from the Bud in there? Maybe even use the rudder and drive stuff too?
I'm also wondering if I would have to scale down the Wild Thing a small amount because of the slightly smaller engine. I'm a decent builder so I know I can build the hull. BTW this boat would just be for sport running, no racing or anything.
What do you guys think?

Sounds doable to me. You could have the Wild Thing plans down-sized to fit the 'Bud engine plus you might want to update the drive to a flex cable setup to better suit a mono hull-other than that, go for it!

Just wondering how much I would need to downsize it. I've been building planes for awhile now but my experience with boats has mostly been RTR. I'd have to order the Wild Thing plans. I've actually already got plans here for another vee called "The Electrified" which is a 6 cell 05 class electric. I thought about using that as a basis for a .15 nitro but I'm not sure it would work. Wild Thing is probably my better option.

The Wild Thing's plans should be reduced so that it is about 26" long.

Thanks, that's about 3/4's size of the original which is what my math told me but I wanted to confirm that with someone more knowledgeable about boats.

I own a down-sized Wild Thing from www.grimracer.com . The engine rails may have to be modified the the original downsized plans to accomodate the 3" wide motor mount that you'll need.
BTW, you can see several videos of mine running at www.rcflix.com under OB Nut's vids from last Saturday.
I guess that I don't know what I'm talking about with only 30+ years of R/Cing experience and now 2,205 postings on this site alone.

and that's just one of them..............

No, I'm the one that doesn't know what they are talking about! That's why I've posted on two different sites looking for ideas and answers. In fact, you are one of the knowledgeable people I was hoping to get an answer from! If I somehow implied otherwise then I certainly apoligize! I guess I misworded my other post, it was not my intent to insult you. Sorry for the cross postings between sites. I just wanted to have as much chance as possible of getting info.
Thank you for the links and the information, I really appreciate it.
